Q: Where can MTN SP customers check up on their usage / account online

A: Go to https://callquest.mtnsp.co.za and register (if you aren't already registered). This is only for MTN service provider customers as far as I know. Particularly useful if you don't have a handset (e.g. data card users). Thanks to Magus for this. I have read that people have been frustrated with this service...

A good question, I say Mister.

Here's a question: (Might be usefull)

Q:
How do I get hold of someone at MTNsp that actually knows something (or anything) about data services and products, especially data bundle packages?

A:
Well sur, as Hydrofire, bless his soul, so kindly pointed out, them normal ol' folk at MTNsp don't know much abou' them data servin' and stuff, so what yous gut to do is select option five (now say it with me y'all: faaave). That would be thar blackberries and data servin' line. Na, yous just keep on pressing them buttons. Afta getting to the berry line, yous gut push one fo data servin and den three for them friendly folk with them black berries. They be sure to undo all them thar tying that those nasty people at the other helpdesk had dun to yo berries and such.
If those nasty dumb*** folk at MTNsp aint givin' you no such option, I highly recommend yous start askin' fo them kind berry-fixin' folk. They'll fix you up nice and solid.

Data bundles on Mychoice contracts

Why can one not convert the airtime on the mychoice 150 contract to a data bundle?

Data Bundles on Mychoice Packages

Data Bundles are added onto existing price plans, at a lower cost than on the price plan. So in order to give you the lower rates, we need to deplete the data bundle first. When this is done, the out of bundle rate applies, and the mychoice 150 value will be depleted.

3G connection

Hi how do i know if i am connected to a edge network i got my 3G enabled simcard today and it was activated. but my acsess points still are GPRS points even after running the settings wizzand on my nokia 6680. i sould be on a edge network as i get the Yello broadband and i live in knysna.

Connecting to EDGE

Hi

Regarding MTN and the data connection. The settings that you originally receive for MTN GPRS will also be used when connecting to EDGE or 3G. The coverage area and handset will determine the speed at which you connect.

If you have a handset that supports EDGE and you are in an area that displays "Yello Braodband" then your handset will automatically connect at the EDGE speed.

The same applies to 3G.

Hope this helps

Regards

Can I get MTN data on a new Huawei Vodafone 3G card?

I recently upgraded to a new Huawei E620 3G/EDGE card, from Vodacom, thus Vodafone branded, and I'm running Vodafone's Dashboard 7 software. But unlike my previous experience with an earlier Vodafone card and software, I don't seem to be able to get online with my MTN data-enabled SIM-card -- which works fine for data in my phone, just not with the data card.

Can someone help? Do I need special settings etc, or has Vodacom/fone blocked access to their non-preferred networks (e.g. MTN) with the new card and software? Trying to phone the MTN helpdesk is guaranteed to flatten every cell battery you have....

Thanks a lot

terencek

The Vodacom Huawei data card AFAIK is not network locked. Your problem seems to be the Vodacom dashboard S/W.

Get the MTN dashboard S/W. There you could select the network of your choice.

(I am not sure where you can download it. It is supplied with the MTN Huawei data card)

How does data bundles work? Can I buy these at supermarkets such as PnP? Does this also constitute a 16-digit PIN that one can load onto a data-enabled phone? Does a data bundle get used for all types of data connections i.e. GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSPDA?

I assume your using Pre-paid:

Load the relevant airtime on your phone, R 10 = 10MB, R 100 = 100MB, R 220 = 350MB, R499 = 1GB

If for example you want 1GB of data Bundle.

You'll have R 499 worth of airtime on your account. Dial *141# and the call button. Follow the prompts and sellect a 1GB bundle. This will convert your Money value to the 1GB bundle valid for 30 days.

Your bundle is valid for whatever connection type your using. GPRS/Edge/3G/HSDPA

Hope this helps.
