Speed up/down, contention ratio, website?

All that I ask is that you try out a Mac, coke and fries - martin

They claim up/down speeds of 256k - 512k , no cap on bandwidth and as far as contention ratio I could not find anything. The website is www.webintact.com
Maybe somebody heard about them, and can give more info/background.

Damn well its good to know that sites like that still exist but have to say its better than some of the hari chrisna sites that i've run across now and again to get a good laugh.

Proud South african rip offs.

Guys, I got a quote from Web Intact.
Installation: R 1,500.00 excl VAT.
Equipment: R 1,800.00 excl VAT.
--------------------
R 3300.00
VAT: R 462.00
---------
Total R 3762.00

Access: R 550 pm

I think download speed is 512kb/s.

Maybe they HAVE been shot, and so didn't have time to rectify their initial balls-up. [:D]

Still on ISDN... watch this space.

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd let you all know what's in the pipeline with Web Intact...

I am part of a team of people with substantial business and RF skills who have just joined up with Web Intact with the view to enabling the company to become a reliable alternative to the current Wisp's.

Work has already begun on upgrading all the existing Access Points to a higher standard, and already improved service reliabilty is being provided.

We have access to all the major high site points around Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Swaziland, and you can be sure these will be exploited to offer superior coverage for those areas in these early stages. There are some AP's in Durban and Cape Town, but for now the coverage is primarily in the PWV area.

At this stage the setup cost is more in the region of R2200, and that's not too bad set against the comparitive cost of an ADSL modem.

Thereafter, the subscription fees are in the region of R300 - R1000, depending on your bandwidth requirements.

The website is on the list of 'to do' items for the shakeup and upgrade of the company and network, but you can be assured of a vast improvement... the help line has already had it's turn bein' 'whipped into shape'....

Any questions, please feel free to direct them to me.

Chat soon,

Chris

Well R2200 compared to R600 ADSL router?

I think theres a big gap

Sorry - router... you're right there, but that also includes all installation costs. I see with places like www.justconnect.co.za/ charge R3300 for their modem, R150 call-out fee, and R500 activation. That gives you a startup cost of R3950! Way too much...

Home users can expect slightly lower setup costs.

Oh - and there's no cap...

Not being pessimistic or anything, but we have heard the whole "no cap" thing quite a lot.

Web Instact - I agree, Wireless initial setup is costly, and even if I did the maths you guys with proper equipment would not be making that big markup on that installation.

re: the cap issue, indeed. No cap but speeds of 5k/s average I could understand, but how "true" is the term "no cap" with you guys?

I was only refering to 5k/s, as commonly that goes along with true uncapped these days.

Speed to make up for no cap, summin like that :/

Sure - and all I can say now is that there's no intention of putting any limit on 'reasonable' users. It all depends on the cost of the supply, and the capacity of the network... even in the UK people are being cut off for excessive consumption - granted for much more than what we have been forced to endure - but cut off nevertheless.

What I can say for sure is that the new partner and investor is a firm believer in making a little money off a lot of units, and that the customer always comes first. I have been with him for the past three years, and he has worked wonders in the radio industry in SA. I have faith that with his business and technical sensibilities, Web Intact will offer a reliable service with good speed and support at a competitive price...

can't ask for much more than that, really... or can you?

Packages and monthly cost I would wait until May for final numbers, but expect minimums of 128k (poss 256, i'll have to confirm for you) in the region of R350 p/m for home users, R550 p/m for business (up to 5 users). There will most likely be equipment rental options too. Contracts will apply on rentals.

As far as speed goes, it's a shared 128, 256 or 512 bandwidth, with a minimum of 128.

What would you like to see (speed, cap) at what price?

256 uncapped sounds very reasonable for R350. You also need to define reasonable usage. I think people wanna know what they're getting themselves into. Just be honest. If 20GB pm is too much then make sure your customers know.
