I bought a laptop because of the load shedding. Can't afford the 3G card though so will probably use dialup when the power goes out. Lol! Going backwards here...

ADSL router on a UPS (600kva), will last just about 2 hours. Thats what I do.
How do you plug the router in to it? The one I have only has the kettle power cord connections...

Are you sure it wouldn't be longer than that? Don't routers only draw 10 or 15 watts of power?
Its 2 hours - been through that a few times.
I reckon its because the UPS I have is small, and going from battery to 240V, and then to a transformer and back to 12V DC is inefficient.
There is a thread somewhere that shows a more complex, but very much more efficient way to do it.

Ok wanted to get a 650VA to run a cordless phone and ADSL router for a few hours, might have to get something bigger then seeing as Eskom load sheddings are often longer than 2 hours. Thanks.
