State plan for digital TV to go to cabinet

It makes perfect sense for the boxes to be opened up to all. Infact I as an owner of the box give right(s) to all the legally recognised operators to my device to do what needs to be done to get the signal to my house. This right comes with responsibilities,of course, on the part of the operator. Having said that, the issue of handling upgrades raised by Multichoice should be investigated and addressed fully. It may be that we need boxes that are partitionable, or that an neutral company must be set up to deal only with interops logistics, like Software developments, testing and upgrades, and of course acquiring the boxes themselves. In the latter case no operator will claim illigitimate rights to any such hardware, which in fact does not belong to them in the first place.
 
I agree with VICE, but I'll be happy to throw my DStv decoder in the bin if I can get a state of the art Philips or Panasonic digital full HD PVR decoder. I would not mind forking out the R3 - R4k. I can then do the fuc I want with my decoder and as VICE says, I give any operator full rights to upload their software to my decoder....that said, the uploaded software should not ask me everytime I switch on my decoder if I want to set that paricular software as the default software....

Isn't the digital switch over supposed to be complete in time for a few weeks of football (aka MMX, have FIFA copyrighted that yet?)...

Perhaps breaking television is part of the power saving plan. 'Go to bed early, there's no tv any more'...

If you baught it in SA then 99% probably not.

I'm afraid while the rest of the world has been selling only DVB digital TV's for the last 8 years - we are the worlds dumping ground for analog square 4:3 Tv's (and LCD's, plasma etc) - and we are so dum we don't even realise it. We should be paying a 3rd of the price for this rubbish!

One way you can tell is to look at the rear and see how many arial inputs you have. A digital TV will have two - one for the digital tuner, and one for the analog tuner.

There will be a third as well, an output from the digital tuner that has been converted to analog, but it is a male plug. The idea for this one is to connect your analog VCR & other tuner equipment that does not have a digital tuner.

And BTW, the USA is due to cut off their analog signal completly in 1 years time. http://dvice.com/archives/2008/01/shift_friends_d.php
