Scorpions, police unit to form new body


The Scorpions and the police's organised crime fighting unit would be disbanded to form a "reconstructed" unit, Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula said in Parliament on Tuesday.

"The Scorpions will be dissolved and the organised crime unit of the police will be phased out and a new amalgamated unit will be created," he said during a debate on President Thabo Mbeki's state of the nation address.

The "best experience" of the two bodies would be merged.

I wonder how many of the Scorpions staff will still be part of this unit in 6 months time?

I still havent heard a single decent reason as to why they would want to disband a successful and generally un-corrupt unit, only to incorporate them into THE MOST corrupt unit in our public departments. Obviously I can think of some reasons that do not involve logic and reason but rather corruption and stupidity.

What? They have each had one good experience? Its called best practice you tool! Something the guavamint has never heard of outside of corruption school.
 
Its simple, the scorpions enjoy the same previlages as the judges, they charge and prosecute anyone they want and cannot be influenced by goverment, once they are onto you there is nothing stopping them, under the s.a.p.s there will be nothing stopping corrupt officials from dodging them.

Heard that - its atrocious and blatantly obvious that the move is to protect Zuma. I was shocked when they burst into raptures.

Please do not forget the closure of the special Abalone unit a few years back. What we have now, total collapse of the industry, closure of the factory, total ban on diving except now at the point. Yet nobody will take responsibility for that feat. Generated and created by the ANC.
 
Selebi would never ever have been brought before a judge had the Scorpions been under SAPS control as is proposed in the latest ANC masterplan.

The ANC are continuing with their mindless babble that Mbeki and Co were using them as a pvt army as such. All rubbish of course but even if there was a smidgen of truth to their claims, if their noses were clean they would have nothing to worry about now would they.
Trust the justice system.

It leaves little doubt in anyones mind that the real reason for this assault on the Scorpions is simply to protect the corrupt elite elements of the ANC hierarchy and avoid any further embarrassment.

Crime pays handsomely in SA.

Actually generated by the poachers and handled terribly by the ANC. You cant absolve the poachers from their role. Nor can we absolve the ANC for cocking up like this so many times.
