‘DStv on Demand pc’ to expand offering

The reason that there is slow uptake is not due to broadband access. There are probably close to 750 000 people with broadband access of some type or other. IIRC DSTV only has around 1 million subscribers in South Africa.... not a significant difference especially as the intersection of the two groups is very large.

The slow uptake is due to high data costs and crap content. Who writes these press releases?

lvery low monthly usage limits means that uptake of this online media service has been slow

due to high data costs

the high costs cause low usage limits. It'd the the number 1 reason I wouldn't dstv broadband/onDemand.

Heck, if I had high usaged limits and could pick my channels of choice from DSTV for an overall lowered cost, I'd go for it. Dont give me this
'bouquet' junk though.

Hell, if we had high/no usage limits I would buy my tv programs from international online tv sites, not this local is lekker k@k

I registered when it launched, I tried to view somthing....problem with the license and I kept going round in circles. I emailed their support (in November) and to date no assistance or feedback. I have not been back since.....no wonder theres a slow uptake:mad:

I had the same problem. Download a 400 MB file but were unable to view it due to problems acquiring the DRM license. Their support told me to that I have to disable any anti virus S/W and firewalls. (Not a good idea for security reasons ).

I temporary disable AVG and the firewall, but still had no success.

So I gave up on them.

Same issue here. No feedback whatsoever. I even sent them a video of exactly what I do and where MPLayer hangs trying to download the DRM license.

can't even get the site to work properly on linux

drm - oooggghhh

Anyone know where the dstv on demand site is hosted i.e. locally or internationally

what happened with the "on demand" stuff that was supposed to be available on pvr from Feb?

Multichoice will introduce international content in the near future to expand the current bouquet which offers channels like MNet, Supersport, Kyknet, MNet Movies, Go, Channel O and MK.

If they get some decent content I might watch it. The problem is that the visual quality is quite bad for the file size. They must be able to get it looking better than it does for 450 megs!

Has anyone made much use of the Joost IP TV offering?

I signed up a while back, but it's not really worthwhile on my 128k (uncapped) account - too slow...

If it's actually up to snuff, I would be heading in that direction.

IP TV is one of the reasons why net neutrality is essential to real global competition.

Good luck if you think of running Joost ob SA's expensive caps

I signed up when they first launched and also experienced an issue with the DRM. One email to support got it fixed.

The service works nicely for simply catching up with something you missed when the quality is not as important as seeing the program.

A (much) wider selection would be very welcome though.

Guys I signed up and with a lot of pain (getting WMP11 to work with DRM) I downloaded a few so called "HD" 400M videos. Well, the quality is *** *** ***. I emailed them with absolutely no response. Typical corporate don't care attitude. ABSOLUTE waste of time until they can supply us true HD 720p content.
