Neotel offers ‘Telkom free’ international connectivity

Nice! Now start delivering services already so that I can sign up ffs...

Been waiting an awful long time to dump telkom

Interesting to see that SITA is using Neotel... isn't SITA government?

SITA is the South African State Information Technology Agency. gov.za In other words yes. Telkom lost that deal, and Neotel got it - remember...

Great news indeed. I wish they (Neotel) take as many customers from Telkom as possible.

ok good. How much ,if way less than telkom then where do i sign for my adsl?

According to Angus Hay, Chief Technology Officer at Neotel, the fact that a private consortium controls the SAT3/SAFE system and determines pricing for bandwidth on this cable system remains a big challenge in forcing international bandwidth prices downwards

Angus, FFS  don't even make attempts at spinning here boet - we know the deal with SAT3 - just because the consortium controls it, doesn't mean that there is no room for competition on that sucker!!!!

Telscum has been monopolising and pricing (milking) that cable for long enough.
To get access to the cable and then take the stance of a little school kid whose at his 1st day of lessons waiting to get beat up by the bully, is leaving a rather sour taste in my mouth.

Instead of bitching about the consortium and making excuses ahead of time, you should rather take the stance that you're the damn SNO and that you're going to bring pricing down on that cable's international bandwidth, because the consortium should recognise it should play nicely with you - Cos if they don't, by 2009 you'll have SEACOM which could very well see you kissing SAT3 goodbye - or at least not making you (and in turn, US) dependent on it for international connectivity.

Damn it man - you okes should come out playing some hard ball!!
Crying in a corner that the consortium is in control - thats rubbish - that's Telscum talk!! You're a new customer and should damn well deserver better rates, as a matter of business principle and morale standing if you give a damn about the clients that are still waiting on you to offer them something.

If you come along with fancy gear for our homes, with no competitive rates- for local and international - you could very well be waiting another year (at least) to see people jump ship.

Do not let the hype die (wait - you all have done that yourselves *nudges at deadlines* ) that you're our saviour from Telscum, by then turning around and saying that there's nothing you can do on SAT3!
Its one of Neotel's major accomplishments to get access to SAT3, don't let it happen and then just flop to the side - then you're letting me down. Then you're no better than our current monopoly.
Get dirty in the boardroom and provide results - thats what I want!!

I just want faster internet with resonable usage every month... Is that too much to ask!?

My Current setup: 64k uncapped SAT DSL is, okay I guess, but I dont mind switching up for faster and a little less usage :) atleast mabey then I could play somes games online ffs! :D

Ag F0K to neotel!!!

10 September, 2007:
Neotel said that its negotiations to gain access to the SAT3 landing station are progressing well. The company previously indicated that it will leverage the VSNL shareholding in SAT3 to provide its clients with more affordable bandwidth on the cable, and that access to the SAT3 landing station will complete the picture.

Now:
According to Angus Hay, Chief Technology Officer at Neotel, the fact that a private consortium controls the SAT3/SAFE system and determines pricing for bandwidth on this cable system remains a big challenge in forcing international bandwidth prices downwards.

I am beginning to lose faith in them. After half a decade of promise it comes down to this.

It is easy to say you will lower prices but oh so hard when it is even easier to shaft the public and make a few billion Rands.

I read that as, 'NeeTel is offering to provide Telkodemonopolies with free international connectivity', might read better as either "Telkom-free" or "Telkom-less"...

That's how I read it last night as well, which i thought was just the booze talking, but after reading it this morning (when sober-ish...) it still reads the same.

Gets my vote for funniest myadsl topic of the year.

SAT3 under the spotlight
30 July 2007
Perhaps they are finding that the shareholders agreement does not allow them access based just on their ownership and the consortium has to determine at what rate VSNL is allowed to resell access or something? I really wish that shareholders agreement could see the light of day.

I thought they offered TELKOM some free international bandwidth. Wouldn't that be the coup of the century?

"Here Telkom, have some free international bandwidth, and THEN make up an excuse on why you are so expensive even compared to mobile operators!"

:D

I also thought Telkom was getting something free...

But anything "free of Telkom" is good news for me.

I think "no chains" or "no shackles" sounds better:D

What Angus is really saying is, "We, Nevertel, are the good guys, right? So the fact that we will now be making the same nice fat margins on international bandwidth as Telkom does, is not our fault. That's what happens in a duopoly. But don't worry 'cus we will throw in value-added stuff that you don't need and don't want. But Hay! You will at least be Telkom-free, and we use a much more gentle brand of lubricant."

yeah i thought they were one upping telkom in marketing by giving the free international access.
