Telkom to cut international bandwidth prices

LOL - got to hand it to telkom, they'll thumb suck any excuse to justify why they're dropping their price to make them look good... as much as a price decrease is welcome, its still not good enough!

Funny how the price decrease comes around when Neotel is on the horizon.

Are we being shafted again.

Telkom recently announced that a ‘significant reduction in the base price for its International Private Leased Circuit (IPLC) service will be introduced on 1 April, 2008’.

One little Question, How has telkom treated its customers up to now ????.

Me thinks telkom is having a laugh. Remember, I April, is April Fools Day

I wonder if the Telcos will reduce their prices. Would be pretty cool if they did...

they haven't reduced it they just changed it cause everything else is cheaper now

"We want to screw you for a little longer"...

Yea, sure - but what about local pricing? That also need to be reduced...

Heh, will be a hoot if Telkom's network folds during 2010... :D

“Combined with significant increases in capacity on existing international cable systems, ....

Telkom said that capacity growth on its international infrastructure is expected to cater for growth demands for the next decade and thereafter.

The incumbent operator added that its IPLC service is ideally positioned for the 2010 Soccer World Cup challenge.
Really? Where does this capacity growth come from?

What irks me most is how imbecilic Telkom seems to think we all are. They have absolutely no respect for the people of this country and keep treating us all like annoyances who need to be placated with a seemingly nice gesture every once in a while.

Telkom, your MO is as transparent as Michael Jackson's skin. Give up the ghost and get start playing ball like everyone else, or are you still waiting for that elusive buyout offer?

According to Telkom these tariff reductions are an indication of their commitment to provide affordable international bandwidth and their unwavering support of the ICT industry’s growth.

Oh right, that is why we are paying amongst the highest rates in the world for it.

Clearly Telkom is getting a touch worried bout NeoTel's potential "threat". Ooh I love to whatch them squirm, even if it is only a little bit. Only one thing to say to you Telscum: DIE TELKOM DIE ALREADY! :p

ditto

don't you just love it they screw you for years and say their prices are alright, then they drop them and make it look like they are doing us all a big favour - and when you take the time and trouble to moan about it they have the cheek to diss us at every turn - it should be very clear to anyone who was right, but the damage it has caused...

Explaining the price reductions Alphonzo Samuels, Group Executive of Telkom Wholesale Services, says that the initiative is aimed at achieving competitive international benchmarks.

so is such a claim an admission that their prices in the past have been monopolistic and anti-competitive? :D

OR

According to Telkom these tariff reductions are an indication of their PANIC!!

The end cannot come soon enough for you, Telkom. I'm already fantasizing about the letter I'm going to write to tell you where you can route all the alleged "services" you used to extort money from me...

Die Telkom, die.

In 2004 I switched off Telkom in my home and pledged that I will never use them again - even if they charge R10 for a 20mb connection with a 100 gig cap - I will use the next best operator.

These paltry price reductions is just cosmetics from the marketing department - you don't fool the masses that must fork out every month.

I think Telkom is starting to panic - the longer they fight the unbundling of the local loop, the more irrelevant copper wire connections become.

When this eventually happens, it is going to be a non event - wireless will cover the last mile at much higher speeds.

Telkom, you kept this nation hostage for many years with high prices and disgusting service, now your copper wires are corroding and your corporate value with it.

You will never be bought out (maybe at a give-away price) because technology has moved on.
