Cellphone ad blitz could be useful or infuriating

At least you can disable your bluetooth and not be bugged at all. But unfortunately I am still receiving the vodacom MMS spam on a weekly basis even though I have opted out numerous times.
 
Went to Fourways mall the other day and left bluetooth on (i was using it for my car kit) - anyway - in the space of 10 mins that I was at fourways mall i received about 5 different bluetooth requests for sending of pictures etc.

It's extremely irritating and you can't stop the messages without turning off bluetooth - so so much for their "permissions based" marketing.
 
and thats why you set your phone to auto receive, got a few of them in the mall the other day, just ignored them.
 
I have been sending "STOP" replies to all the spam messages I have been getting and it seems to work so far, although the fact that I have to pay for an SMS to get them to stop spamming me really irks me! :mad:

Bluetooth can be turned off - and this should be off always, as having Bluetooth on is an unnecessary drain on the battery, and contributes indirectly to loadshedding... :p :D

And I don't bother replying with "STOP" SMS'es or MMS'es - they can go speak to the nice guys from WASPA instead. :)

Yeah, but shouldn't we at least try to get them to stop first.

If the stop method is the industry chosen standard for halting the spam, then the WASPA is not gonna listen to unless you have at least tried that one method first.

I know it sucks to have to pay to get them to stop, but it seems that all advertisers have to agree to abide by a stop request.

Now if they still spam you after that... then the WASPA steps in!

The opt-out/ opt-in SMS for SMS's/MMS's you get from Vodacom (i.e. not anyone else) is free of charge.

That's good news.

Unfortunately the latest one I received (from Vodacom23 - recharge with R110 and we'll give you an extra R11!) didn't have any STOP/unsubscribe instructions listed. In fact, going back through my old SMSs, the one I received in January didn't either (from Vodacom8 - Save 40% on prepaid data bundles!). But at least now I know that if I do find a way to unsubscribe (I assume you reply with STOP?) that it'll be free :)

Won't you (and anyone else) PM me the messages together with the sending number? I'd like to check where it came from, it should have an opt-out footer if the network sent it.
 
More worthless spam.

Nothing good will come from that spam. The less advertising the better.

See what happens if you reply with OPTOUT or STOP.
 
Hi all
I got a sms from VODACOM23 "3 MORE WEEKS UNTIL YOU CAN GET FREE AIRTIME FROM VODACOM! Remember; keep on using your number (076*******) for Calls and SmSs.." there is no stop or opt out and no reply so how do they make money with there spam's?
