Hi,

I want to switch from WIFI to ADSL because of the bad latency and it’s very unstable – I am paying R350 at the moment for my 128k connection and 3 gig.

I want to use the ADSL mainly for games like COD4, TF2 etc and to download patches and updates and of course browsing.

What would you guys recommend – I know I am gonna pay more than R350 but I want to get ADSL as cheap as possible.

I have phoned Telkom and they said my extension does support ADSL.

Thanks:cool:

How about starting with Do Level 2 broadband (384K) from Telkom - you'll get approximately 4GB of international and 20GB of local for R258 per month. If you require unshaped bandwidth then you can always purchase this elsewhere from Web Africa or Axxess etc. If the speed is inadequate you can also upgrade this very easily via a phone call to Telkom. You don't have to pay to increase your linespeed but you do if you decide to downgrade the speed i.e. from 4Mbps to 384 or 512K so rather start slow and increase if necessary. The Do Level 3 option is probably the most cost effective if you require 4Mbps speed (~R554) which is still far too expensive! Telkom ADSL installation and repair times seem to be better and less problematic than for the other ISPs.

Go for telkom if you looking for decent pricing and **** service!

I am really not sure why people always seem to punt Telkom on here nowadays when very recently they were regarded by many as the enemy! Now we have ISPs that can give you the whole package and all of a sudden everyone says go DoBroadband.....

I know for a fact their are cheaper offers out there... and you will not need to deal with Telkom!! An example in the Nashua Mobile offering.

Why TELKOM?

There are only cheaper 1, 2GB (Nashua, Cybersmart, SAOL etc.) bundled offers as far as I know and these usually don't include any local bandwidth. Most of these offers involve some type of contract, debit order or 6 months cash in advance payment plan. Here is the full range of Nashua Mobile offerings - 1GB – R139, 2GB – R215, 3GB – R295, 5GB – R460, 8GB – R700, 10GB – R860, 15GB – R1250, 20GB – R1630. The Telkom Do Level 2 @ R258 is better value than the Nashua 3GB @ R295 and possibly even the 5GB @ R460 both of which do not include any local bandwidth. Cybersmart offerings - 1GB - R169, 3GB - R259, SAOL 1GB - R 189.00, 2GB - R 218.00, 3GB - R 299.00, 5GB - R359.00, 10GB - R599.00. Telkom's Mega 200VWR which is free on a 2 year contract is probably also better value than any of the other routers if it can do Voip and be flashed to run Billion 7404VGP firmware.

Look at the terms of the SAOL R138 1GB 2-year contract offer - topup bandwidth available at R69 per gigabyte, setup fee of R250, router charge of R450, price increase in the second year to R189 etc. etc.

Thanks for the advice - seems like Do Broadband 2 is the way to go.

Will I also be able to jou the SAIX newsgroup with the Do 2 account?

Get a standard unbundled ADSL line, and then get 3GB from WebOnline.

Telkom line = R152
WebOnline = R179

= R331
