Technology rots kids’ minds

Sadly true this ..... we have a generation of serious doffies, lol.

Ooh a controversial topic. IMHO, not moulding an inquisitive mind will be letting a childs mind rot. It's too easy to sit a child down infront of the television or computer instead of getting them out of the house and active. Unfortunately with a a busy lifestyle alot of us follow, not many of us can afford spend enough time with kids.

Question, is there a difference between a Television and a Computer. One is passive, and the other is very inter-active. And then as mentioned above, we have Wii.

Interactive or not, in the past kids read or were read fairy tales and stories,
which allowed their imaginations to grow, nowadays they get the audio-visual input from the screen and speakers. There is nothing left for them. So yeah, get them to read some decent books for starters.

“If a child does not like the outcome of a game, he simply erases it and starts over. There is no need to attempt to rectify or improve the situation and consequently no time for reflection and learning as would be provided by a hobby such as building a model aeroplane or a puzzle.”

this is a lie show me 1 game that does not have some sort of puzzle in it. Even mindless killing games you have do some sort of puzzle. And ive never seen a young kid deleting a game because he cant complete a level they will try for hours just to get the power up or reward.

They also say kids have problems with knowing what up and down, well I had problems with left and right but was all fixed when I started playing games seeing as u actually need to move my mouse left and right.

No social skills ok this is bs on a new level I met most of my friends through gaming just because we like to talk about games and not rugby now its not social skills? And what about online gaming? you play and speak with other players and have to work together as a team.

Who ever said a gamer doesnt read never played final fantasy :P. Me and all my friends read a lot not so much in games but on the internet. Most kids will sit on forums gaming sites etc.

So please stop thinking gaming is rotting our youths minds, how can playing games consentrating playing with people doing puzzle looking deeper in to games by reading lore etc how can this rot your mind? Sorry but ive yet to met a stupid gamer (counter strike doesnt count :P)

First it was games causing kids to become violent, and now its games ( along with other technologies ) making kids become dense. It all essentially boils down to parenthood ( be more strict and spoil them less )

And that statement about kids not knowing up from down... well i clearly know the difference and even then i still play with my mouse inverted.

I guess I got three rotten kids then... strange they seem pretty well developed to me. I guess we'll only know when they grow up to be serial killers. :)

my 3-year-old "plays" linux off his usb flash drive. he knows how to boot it, navigate in it. interfacing with a machine will certainly not make the young minds stagnate.

Isn't knowing up from down essentially the same thing as knowing down from up? ;)
