"Whites should speak out against bad governance"

... and what, be labelled "whiners" or "racists"?

1) First we get told to shut op or leave the country.
2) Then we are labelled "racists" when we complain or moan.
3) Now, we are blamed for not speaking out enough!!!

Cape Town - Mamphela Ramphele, companion of the black consciousness leader the late Steve Biko, and mother of two of his children, said on Monday that white people have a bigger responsibility to speak out against mismanagement and bad governance that has marred the past 14 years of South Africa's history.

Ramphele, former vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Town, and a managing director of the World Bank told the Cape Town Press Club: "You have the benefits of education, and you benefited from both apartheid and the new South Africa."

The last sentence sounds like a taunt:
"You have the benefits of education, and you benefited from both apartheid and the new South Africa."

Which is especially hard for those whites who used to label any white person who didn't support the ANC racist in the first place :o

Been speaking the entire time, wtf is she on about? Perhaps she should go on this amazing thing called "the internets" where sht is anonymous and people say what they really feel

You finally get a black person who agrees with you and wants to listen to you and what do you do??

You start start *whining* again!!

Can anyone ever say anything that will make you happy?

Because we have been speaking out! Why didn't she rather say something like "black people should start listening to white people"?

Because we have been speaking out!

No you haven't, everyone just whines and no one likes a whiner.

Be constructive in your criticism, speak to the people whocount and don't whine. Maybe then people will listen to you.

Oh, so you can say such a thing about me 'cause you know me?

Be gone troll!

Mrs Ramphele perhaps does not realise that white people are continually speaking out, despite the negative responses that these actions receive, which include many 'official' attempts to gag the media some even through dubious legislation.

The criminals are in charge.
In short, white people are doomed if they do and doomed if they don't.

Not much a minority can do now, she needs to address her own people to get them to hold their government accountable. Not likely to happen though.

I think we need to start a campaign whereby all white people refuse to pay taxes until we are heard.
They cannot exactly lock up a million people.

Have you not noticed that (mostly) when you criticize someone or something dear to them, you get a personal attack as the response? For example, when I complained to my neighbour that her dogs barked constantly, I was called "aggressive."

It is the "Shoot the messenger if you don't like the message" approach.

So what if you are labeled "racist"? Calling someone a racist doesn't make it true. Neither does it impress the thinking members of SA society, white, black or brown. They are too smart to fall for that one. ;)

"Cape Town - Mamphela Ramphele, "

The same one who referred to UCT as a white English schoolboy institution before she took over as chancellor in the 90's.

She took over from Stuart Saunders as Vice Chancellor in early 90's. Same mentality as Saunders if not better (or some students would complain and say "worse"). She was very a strict person who took no nonsense.
