Who’s to blame for the roads mess?

Suban says Neotel seldom crosses roads and when it does, the company is not actually allowed to re-tar the actual road surface. This work is subcontracted back to the city council.
oh ffs. Thats BS. Neotel should be allowed to do it themselves. They seem to be worried about their reputation and would therefore (probably) do decent work....or at least get it done within a reasonable timeframe.

Never heard of Dark fibre before...must be someone new.

I've only noticed them doing pavement special jobs all over the SOUTH and Woodmead.

is this that Bi@@@@@@@@@@@@@tch Olivia
who complained on Hellopieter about the roads been
dug up and found out it was not NEOTEL contractors..

what TF is next ..

omg. u complain, about net speed. now when they putting the inferstructure.
the bastard moan. about traffic delay.. i welcome the delays. in hope for a better internet service in the furture to come.

if they dont put down the stuff, how they gonna supply the new service when they come online

People have no patients.
I thin Neotel need to update their website asap, with the latest works happening around the area, If they do not do that then we know they cleaning their hands as many cars bumpers will definitely get some nice bumps if u driving a low car.. ...

I am patient about the new service but damage to my car is a NO no no No

The roads mess is just getting started.... JRA is about to upgrade every major highway offramp in Jhb, starting July. Hmmm, fun.

Seems like a perfect time to hire a contractor in "orange" with "orange equipment" to dig a trench and lay some fibre around the corner for personal needs ... I'd be surprised if someone hasnt actually done it for themself.

AMEN! I also don't see what the fuss is about. So there will be a few little annoyances, SO WHAT?!?! We are getting a mayor telecoms upgrade!!!

Dark fibre

Info:
It is a term to describe un-used optical fibers. If you read up on the internet about the dot.com bubble burst they make reference to the huge volume of dark fibre i.e. fibres that are not connected. That's where I learnt what the term means.

However, I realise you must be referring to a company by that name in which case they chose a really stupid and inappropriate name

From said article:
South Africans love complaining about internet speeds and Telkom; often the two gripes go hand-in-hand. The only way we're going to experience true broadband (no matter what operators claim DSL is), is via fibre. This is especially important for corporates, who need high-speed internet access

We don't love to complain about speeds. We complain because we don't get what we pay for

I'm extremely glad to hear that NeoTel plans to extend that fiber direct into our homes in the long term. FTTx is the only way to be going in the long term :D

At the cost of our roads though. It's understandable that it has to be done, but they should really organise to fill the holes alot quicker than currently, the one outside of telkom's randburg offices have been there for far to long.

So am I. But we havent had any digging in out area!!! I dont think thats a good sign...

I would say that the cables should be dug up and cut if the road is not fixed properly. The cost of repairing the roads is huge. Eskom have machines that dig under the roads, I don't see why the cable guys can't do the same thing.

SANRAL, not the JRA. As the VMS on the Ben Schoeman would say ... "Expect Heavy Delays". We must appreciate however that the work to be done is critical and will help ease congestion somewhat (high standard public transport must happen asap).

Someone get who ever wrote this a new nappy!

Would they rather have pigeon k@k all over the place, cause that's what we gonna have to resort to because of people like this!

This article was written to bring some perspective on "who's to blame". Us "geeks" know it's Neotel or similar, but the general public assumes it's the local Council and give them hell.
