Hey. I'm really confused now. i heard so many rumours going around and I'm not sure who is speaking the truth. In Richards Bay the whole place is being dug up and orange pipes are placed in the trences. Is this orange pipes for optic fiber cables? If it is who do you suspect it is? Telkom has 100% of Richards Bay already covered with optic fiber and Telkom store say that 99% of Richards Bay can have adsl. So I'm guessing to who these orange piper are for. I have adsl and along most of the streets you see them inserting these orange pipes into the ground. I'd be so happy if it is Neotel. Richards bay is about a 30min drive from Mtunzini where the SAT3 cable beach. :)

Both Neotel and Telkom use orange cables...the only way to differentiate between them is to look at the vans. All neotel digging operations have an orange van tagging along.

and the orange pipes don't necessarily mean fibre... both companies (and their contractors) use the orange and green cover pipes for their normal telephone cable as well.

Seen this happening in Cape Town as well. Had a closer look at one lying next to the road. It is simply a empty orange pipe, nothing in it, about 5cm in diameter. Unfortunately noone was around to ask about it. Next day there were new man holes, covers and all, pipes must have been burried already. So it seems that these pipes will house some form of cable in the future, who knows for who or what it might be.

It's happening all over guys... Neotel rolled out in Jozi, now they are rolling out everywhere else....!!!! The boys in blue... i mean orange!

King Pie?

No man, King Pie is purple and Green... London Pie is blue! :p

in other news... I was walking in downtown Joburg yesterday... and I walked by some of these orange cable pipes. They are rectangular across the width, but contain a few smaller round plastic pipes which are multicolored. There was nothing else inside them. So I assume that they will still push the core wires through when they have buried the plastic tubing. Still not sure what it is that is going to go in there though.

They are going to pump nerve gas through them...

Can you imagine their faces when they realise that they made a kink in one of the pipes.... damn fibre optic will be jamming... take them another two years to figure out why...

Talk about bandwidth restrictions...

Smurfs are blue... until you choke them...

The last I checked and asked it was Telkom. they reckoned they will be in action by the end of the year. I doubt but who knows.

Well that's strange... cos most of the sites I've driven past in durban had NeoTel boards and vans... the workers look like prisoners in there orange jump suits...

Weird..... they're digging everywhere up in Westville and here in the Zone but NO BOARDS at all so can't be Neotel..... They must be using all their available boards down your way ....;) I was out at Umhlanga yesterday and more digging simply everywhere but NO BOARDS ..... twilight zone fosho....

Strange. Where did Neotel get that sort of funding? I mean its clear thei are installing it every where! Hmmm who is to blame. If its telkom I can really just throw up then.:sick:

I think it's safe to assume the hollow orange cables are for blown fibre...

Didn't you hear? Tata have invested a ***** load in Neotel... apparently their reasoning is: "Cos they're not Telkom!" :D

Maybe the hollow orange cables ARE blown fibre... Telkom might be laying blown fibre to remove the steps of incompetency that leads to fibre being blown? HOW DO YOU BLOW FIBRE? How do you spell fibre/fiber?

HAHA!!! They had boards up in Overport, Amanzimtoti, NMR avenue and Glenwood... I wanted to stop and buy the guys all some chow and coke, but didn't have any cash on me... :(

I saw men laying orange "pipes" in Kommetjie Road, Fish Hoek, this morning... does anyone know if this is Neotel? I doubt it (I think it'll be a long time before we see Neotel this side of the Mountain?) but I live in hope!
