Broadband over Power Lines company gets investor

Personally I think internet over power lines is a good idea, just that the world doesn't seem to interested in it as wireless seems to be all the rage.

Wow... GTS still exists.. I'm shocked and horrified...
 
How has this technology not taken off yet?
Almost everyone requires power, so the infrastructure is there, rather than having to wait for other companies to build infrastructure, e.g. FTTH/WiMAX/etc.
Is GTS actually going to start really marketting this and punting the technology, or is it going to be like so many other products out there that just falls flat due to lack of actual results?
 
GTS's customers include 3 000 households that access broadband over electricity power lines. It uses a combination of cable and fibre to provide services in Tshwane, Heidelberg and Nelspruit.

I remember years ago when they started releasing press statements and everyone got so excited. How do they only have 3000 customers???!!

Even Neotel is going to overtake them in 2010 ;)
 
As memory serves me right the tswane project is no longer on ,thanks to the IT manager leaving :sick:.How many times do myadsl want to give this so called company exposure for non delivery :mad:,they don't even have a license to operate BPL yet the ICASA meeting was postponed last week regarding BPL regulations .Don't get your hopes up for this wannabe ISP .....:eek:
 
Broadband over power line could not be enforced in europe or anywhere else.
It's a dead technology.

Broadband over powerline isn't an alternative to ADSL anyway and wireless broadband is the better way for those who can't get ADSL.

It hasn't taken off because GTS failed to even achieve a 10th of their initial promises, and decided to charge more for "existing infrastructure" than the monthly cost of ADSL.
 
u may not know what they are doing, but they certainly have the media's numbers...

WTH is the point?? They wasting time and money...
They really aren't needed in the market... Besides what kinds of speeds will they be able to achieve???
 
From their website: "Goal Networks (GoalNet) have already successfully been deployed in certain gated communities where the HOA (Home Owners Association) or managing agent have authorised GTS to do so. A general roll-out to non-gated communities is currently subject to certain authorities granting permission."
