Apple growth predicted

Gartner predicts that Apple’s share of the computer market in the US and Western Europe will double by 2011, according to HansaWorld SA country manager, Kevin Clarke, who expects to see growing demand for Mac-compatible business management systems.

It's because instead of xp people downgrading to vista, they upgrade to OSX.

:D

“SA has fallen way behind its peers — India, Brazil, China and Russia — where innovation and risk taking is welcomed,” Bekker said.

Way to go SA! </sarcasm>

This is so typical due to SA's current governing bodies, both regulatory and government.
The telkodemonopolies aren't helping either, but that relates to the above too.

The question is do Apple actually want this growth? Or, at least, from their PC business.

As long as OSX is shackled to Apple's own hardware, support for business applications will be slow in appearing. Reality today is that you cannot use an OSX machine effectively in an Enterprise. Trust me, I've tried.

With the OS market in turmoil due to the problems around Vista, this is an excellent opportunity for Apple to gain a bigger foothold in the desktop space.

But to do so, they'll have to release OSX to the PC manufacturers. We already know it works, it's more a licensing issue.

With much bigger penetration in the desktop space, the apps will very quickly follow.

But it's not clear if Apple shares this vision. They might want to focus on the mobile market, a space Bill's been dying to get into for many years.
