DStv’s rivals dropping like flies

What I like about E Sat, is the reason given for withdrawing from the race: "There is too much competition!" Well, I do understand that competition is such a bad thing!

On another note - Is it me or is there something odd about this glut of news channels? Everyone seems to think that we want another 24 hour news channel.

Makes me wonder: Could we have a poll to see what people watch on TV? The choices could be:-
1. News
2. TV shows
3. Movies
4. Sport

What r the alternatives ? Can i put up my own 3 meter dish and start getting some overseas channels or go for internet tv or what ?

Overseas channels? They also have "DSTV" there. Meaning it needs to be decoded. I really doubt a 3m dish will even reach the ppp link to their satellite.
 
I dont mind buying a new decoder and putting up a dish and paying for overseas channels but what r the alternatives or are we just to far out of the footprint to recieve anything ?

I would dig to get the SKY channel.. well their one that premiers the latest episode of whatever series you are watching. Would also like TIVo
 
here's a sure-fire, no-brainer for success when it comes to what tv we need locally:

1. license HBO
2. charge us R300 per month
3. do nothing else

oh yeah: make sure it's HD while you are there.

I don't understand something...

How is competition bad?Have these two companies even tried to compete against DSTV (Multichoice)?
I definitely would not want the CEOs of these two companies with me during war...tucking tail and running? :sick:

Its true, we probably do not need another 24 hr news channel...but we deserve a lot more than we currently get even from DSTV.

This is truly sad...After all these years of lobbying for competition...
