Telkom is holding a General Meeting on Friday. I'm making a plan to be there. Are there any suggestions for questions to the board? Bear in mind that questions will need to fit the context- ie I will be there as a shareholder.

Sneeky, BTTB, ic, gatecrasher /anyone else with a brain?

I don't have the brain for activism, as has been pointed out previously :p

Is Telkom feeling the effect of Neotel yet, and do they see them as a threat, if so, what will they do about it ? That's a question I have ;)

I think they answered that one with their August price increase.

Not in the next year...

Thanks Debbie

Thanks Debbie ,

Here's a few questions !

What does Telkom plan to do with its 50% stake in Vodacom. Will they unbundle to Shareholders ?

What is Telkoms mobile strategy looking into 2009 ?

What sort of Rollout and Financial Commitments was made to Huawei for the wireless rollout of 3G and 1800 Towers ?

What areas are being prioritised for Rollout ?

Why is Telkom not being Competitive enough in terms of Value and price in the broadband Sector ?

Why are they willfully ceding customers to competitors ?

As a shareholder you believe that Telkom has everything in its favour to dominate the market for another 10 years by keeping Competition under its Feet ? Why is Telkom not moving in the Direction of repelling Competition by showing Customers theres no reason to leave Telkom at all.

Telkom media we all admit is too large a investment to justify returns quickly for shareholders, Why is Telkom not investing as much in a WCDMA and EDGE network for Data and Voice that will show returns instantly. One Tower with Competitive pricing can pay itself off in 3 months ! The math has already been done ! PVT ME FOR THE EQUATION

TELKOM'S Voice rates are 2000% higher than Voip. What is Telkom doing about That ? Business's are moving fast into Voip. Telkom has allowed that to happen with their high Tariffs !

The big big profits are in Data ! Telkom is not taking advantage of that ! Why ?

Sorry Debbie !

Clarity with regards to their staff outsourcing plans cause we the [-]victims[/-] customers will be the ones that will probably end up paying for what might end up being a degradation in service (god knows if that's even possible, but hey, i'm a pessimist)

do you think it is too late for telkom to be a national champion?

/seriously...DXL's questions make sense from a shareholder perspective

or maybe just stand up and keep quiet for 10 seconds, then smile and ask the question: remember me?

Thanks everyone!

But eish, Telkom clarified last night that this is a general meeting and not the annual general meeting. Therefore there will be no question time (the point of the meeting is for shareholders to vote on some special resolutions).

The AGM will be coming up in the next few months, we can pick up from there.

I'm going to make a copy of this thread, then, pending mods assistance I predict it will do a disappearing act :)

Ask them about their investment in Soft Switches, and why subscribers are not allowed to use these switches for VoIP. If you can use these soft switches, do the line rental still apply, as you are not connected to a physical switch anymore?

Now that more and more of telcom's clients are building their own infrastructure (governmint, cellular operators), the ongoing calbe theft, and with the arrival of another undersea cable imminent, how are profits in the provision of fixed line services to be maintained?

DXL - mobile

1) The mobile strategy is an important one for any shareholder as there has been a decline in fixed-line voice revenue generated and with other Telco's encroaching on Telkom's turf they need to look toward mobile wireless services.

2) Telkom is already a big player with their VPN services i.e. VPN Supreme, VPN lite etc etc. They've just signed ABSA for a 1.7bn deal apparently.

If I was CEO

If I was CEO..............................................................

- Telephone landline Number with 100 Telkom to Telkom Free Minutes
- 1 Gigabyte of Data FREE Valid for 30 Days 10c a meg out of Bundle
- 50 FREE SMS to Any Network
- Just for the Record - ( No customer will stay within the CAP of R149 )

2. Rollout a WCDMA 3G network in Urban and Well Developed Residential Areas and 1800mhz in the Rest of the Country. Voice and Data Network.

3. Sell all Shares in Vodacom now before More Licences are issued and Cost based Interconnection Kicks IN.

4. Telkom To Telkom Calls can be carried for as little as 10c per minute From CAPE-TOWN TO MPUMALANGA

5. All other Places will of Course be Cheaper. But any smart KID Now KNOWS it costs the SAME to carry a call 1 m away or 1000km on your own Network.
Distance used to be a ploy that started in USA - But after Court Rulings This Distance thingy is now in the PAST.

6. Mobile Cellular in South Africa is Not a Success Story it is the Beneficiary of Telkoms Poor Management and Greed for Profit.
Who would pay R1-30 per minute to talk in OFF peak time if You could Talk for 10c a minute. Now be REalistic With me.

7. Neotel Launched some good deals for Corporates what is Telkom Waiting For. I am pretty sure they can do Better.

If I was CEO ...........................And did all of the above I Would BE AXXXED.

Government's gives a dam about what Telecoms can do for the EConomy !

Telkom has never been Managed WELL like a Telecoms Firm Should !

The Whole of the Engineering & Admin will be outsourced Oh dear service levels
will go down, they outsourced their construction division for cables & F/O

Any feedback on the AGM debbie?

Hey fivel

nope, this wasn't an agm, i got my lions crossed. it was just a meeting to get shareholders to approve a couple of things, such as expansion of the board of directors.

I didn't attend the herd voting session.

The agm will be later this year.

Old Ruben

How does Telkom justify paying Ruben Septembers multi-million Rand bonus to its shareholders when that money could have been better spent on securing their future?
