iBurst's Commercial WiMax Network Goes Live

Don't you just hate it when these articles are the most info you can get about a newly launched product. Nothing on the iBurst website. No Coverage maps to be found. We all know iBurst sucks but can't they at least get something in place before they offer the next biggest scam?(although some will have to try this because its the only option)

Haha, didn't see the installation and equipment charges... R 5 180 and R1 500, buggar off VC and iBust.

If Neotels pricing is similar, they can stick it! :p
Are these prices even competitive against leased lines?

You just beat me to it. :p

Luckily I don't have coverage.

I wonder what Neotel pricing for Wimax will be for consumers?

I've been part of the field trails for the last few months and must say have been pretty impressed with the service.

Till a few weeks ago, the CPE equipment (the modem on your side) was not very stable and it was actually this that held the launch back. But it got swapped out for a different device and now my connection is rock-solid, getting a constant 1Mb/s up and down, 24-hours per day.

I'm actually outside the formal coverage, but I put the mother of all antennas up and (if the wind does not blow it down), get excellent performance.

Do you have a photo of this antenna somewhere? I am sure I saw it somewhere but can't find it now?

That is a serious antenna. Vodacom Business/iBurst should tell people about it. Most likely affordable as well since it is 2.4GHz?

Yes, I think it was about R800. Not much more than that.

I actually had an array of antennas up on that pole (cut off in the photo), and the normal 14dB WiFi antennas also worked very well.

Those prices have gotta be a joke........seriously, Iburst must be confused its not 1st April today.

Also, they cant even service there current customers properly.....let alone a few more.

It's a commercial product...

wonder what their consumer products will be like...

The real issue is that iBurst will once again sacrifice their residential clients experience in their effort to chase the corporate market as dictated to by their owners, Vodacom and Telkom.
The reason I say this is that they must be overlaying the spectrum they have for their iBurst proprietary network for this new Wimax network of theirs which means that they will be providing their own interference on their own licenced spectrum and their residential customers are going to suffer.
