OpenOffice fans down site

It is also available on Internet Solution's mirror, here.

So far so good, I'm loving 3.0, it loads much faster, some of the interface things that bugged me in 2.x are now fixed, and it feels a lot more polished.

But I can't speak for it much more, as I mostly use it for price lists, work stuff, I still use notepad or vim for my editing :)

I think it is a step in the right direction. Generally better than version 2. Still prefer Office 2007 though ;)

Is it compatibile with files with all Microsoft Office extensions as well (and which version does it support?)? Can you open e.g. a MS Office .doc and .xls file in OpenOffice, work on it, save it and then re-open those files again in MS Word and Excel without noticing any difference?

Compatibility is key because it's great to have this free office suite but it's pointless if you have to share those documents you created with people who only use MS Office, and it doesn't work.

Yes, generally you can open any Word doc, or Excel spreadhseet and edit, save it back as .doc/.xls without any hassles, I think there have been odd times when formatting has been altered a tiny bit, but I don't have enough experience with more complicated documents. So YMMV.

One superb feature built in: Export to PDF. It's more compatible than anything before, it's even more compatible with Microsoft's own OOXML than MS Office is.

This almost reminds me of the Firefox downloads for FF3.0....

I wonder if Sun influenced this number, by providing an optional installation option of Open Office 3.0 when you install the Java Runtime Environment?

I think its fantastic. And if you ask me, Office 2007 sucks! Whats with this new blue tabbing system?! Microsoft being gimmicky no less?

Good stuff OO!!

*edit*
And OO is about 500 times faster than any version of MS Office. It runs like a dream on my netbook.

Viva les OO actually suporting ISO standards unlike MO which only throws empty promises to one day "support it". keep it up sun u know we love you for what your doing, right?

Where can I download the latest on local? there was a location but I cant remember it now.
