New overclocking record

BIOSTAR and AMD have set a new overclocking record using a BIOSTAR TA790GX 128M motherboard, together with an AMD Phenom X3 8450 processor, improving the systems performance from 2100 MHz to 3093 MHz, an increase of almost 50%.

Don't know about that being a record. My E6550 overclocked from 2.3 to 3.3 GHz, and running stable. Maybe i'm reading this in the wrong context.

Sorry to burst your bubble but from 2100 to 3093 is 47.29% while your 2300 to 3300 is a measly 43.48%, you have been trounced and I AM AN AMD FANBOY!!! LOL

why dont they just make processors that are faster... now everybody does over clocking and then next thing bang its dead and you need a new one...

Erf.... /me looks at his P4 3.0ghz laptop

I think I might overclock it slightly and break the world record?

There was also an overclocking done to 6ghz back in 2004. Why do people claim stupid things like this?

Unless I've been lied to and this is NOT a 3ghz machine...

have read here

...sure celeron 300a could have reached 600-900mhz

Celeron 300A @ 600MHz 8:03 PM EST - Email Us
They boys over at Hard OCP have been able to get their Celeron 300A up to 600MHz with their very own (not yet patented) SuPaChill system. Check out this bit:

To give you an impression of the SuPaChill’s potential, we’ve been able to run a C300A at 600Mhz /2.3Volts using cooled water as a coolant. Needless to say that not all C300A’s will have this potential, you’ll need a really good Celeron to OC it that much, even with the SuPaChill

How is this a record?

I overclocked my e6300 from 1.86ghz to 3.2ghz, thats well over the 60% mark on air as well :p

People have overclocked q6600 from 2.4ghz to 3.8ghz-4.0ghz.

I agree that the article seems a little.... un-recordy. I've heard of a Core2Duo 2.6GHz reaching 4GHz and above, all on air cooling...

anyways here is one of the "super cooler" articles
If you want to make your own too, HERE are some plans that were created for the HardOCP by Sander Sassen but were never put into production. They are in WORD form. It is the Heat Exchanger Unit that was used to get the 300A up to 633MHz way back when, before they did it so easily today. Please if you use them, keep them free. Thanks.

lol wtf @ heatsinks

Noted. :-) I'm running stock cooling though. Bet you with a few extras i'll get some more juice out of it. Got it upto 3.6, but not very stable.

Got for it Pietie!!

what about toms hardware - didn't they overclock using liquid nitrogen?

yeah, this makes no sense, unless there's a trick - like they didn't increase core voltage, or memory voltage, etc

oh yeah... well I set my clock forward from 12 am to 12 pm! That's 100% :p

... and I was late for work.

Dont fret, it is actually valid.
What isnt stipulated is that the record only stands for that CPU and not for all CPU's
The e2160 was wewll known to be able to do 100% overclocks and that wasnt unusual at all.
When an OC record is being attempted then you can be sure its running on Dice or LN2 whereas heaps of people have had 70%+ OC's on air.

Soooo as we all know AMD is dead and they OC like big ol' lemons.
Intel is the way forward for now....

Intel sux donkey b4ll5. They are big and use p155y pants bully tactics. Plus they copy a lot of AMD. Like EMT64, or iAMD as it is also know. And moving away from rambus ram (which was a scam on its own). These days they are also looking at copying the integrated memory controller approach that AMD has been using for a while now. Intel had to recall the 1ghz P3 because they did a rush job on it and the P4s netburst architecture was a flop.

Sure, AMD copied x86 from Intel, but they did it under license and their CPUs kicked ass. Intel 386s topped out at 33Mhz while AMD made them go up to 40Mhz without heatsink or fan! It even kicked 486 ass. So AMD did copy, but they made intel micro device more advanced, hence the name Advanced Micro Devices.

If you look at all the innovation they put into x86 I think we all owe them a big thanks else Intel would have tried to sink us all with their itanics.

The last good Intel was the PII - and I loved mine. But since then it has been AMD all the way and I am currently using a X2 6000 (dual core 3ghz) on a Biostar 690 board. My next upgrade will be to a 790GX board, later on to a quad phenom.

Intel is for the suits and old folks - oh - and Micheal Dell, and he'll burn in hell.
AMD and Biostar FTW ! (yeah, I'm a fanboi since 2001 and proud of it)

Gosh another "myadsl styled" advertisement......dont tell me this is anything else. Rouxenator agree that AMD plays an vital part in the IT market, but still buy Intel, why cause intel delivers. But AMD is needed to keep the market competitive just hope the boys at AMD will up their game and push innovation.

Sure, there is nothing wrong with buying intel, my dad does, I guess that is what people do when they reach 60.
