Windows 7 shipping November 2009?

Is that a good thing for them to know where you are??? huh????

Bit of a fudge there... I don't think it would take all that much effort for M$ to limit the applications that user location tracking was available in. Since what they seem to be implying is an autofill feature it should be easy to restrain.

That said... Really? November 2009? As I said in another thread, Windows 7 appears to be pretty much Vista. It runs well on one of the machines here but functionally there doesn't appear to be much difference. Am I missing something?

so do people who failed and bought windows vista ultimate (:( ) get a free upgrade to this since the "ultimate" features that were promised still aint come??

I think they should get a free upgrade to Windows 7 at the very least.

I'm looking forward to this one.

Hopefully it will be like xp was to me.

Which is why so many people consider vista to be MEII. :)

Ja, it is looking more and more like that now.

In years to come, Vista might run nicely on much newer hardware (as ME does now), but will be pretty much obsolete.

People used ME years later because it had no activation.

I need a reason to leave XP and Vista is NOT that reason..
Microsoft better deliver on this version or we might all soon have macs or Linux.
Vista was (is) like Millenium epic FAIL..

Vista > XP

I have been using Vista (32bit) for 18 months now and from firsthand experience I can say Vista give me a much better user experience than XP. It just feels better to work on a Vista machine.

Only one problem to date: Sound driver issue right in the beginning, but that was resolved by downloading the correct driver from the manufacturer's site.

No blue screens, no viruses. Vista is so much better in the security department.

I had to reinstall XP every 6 months. I have just formatted my Vista machine now after 18 months, and it wasn’t really necessary.

Only other issue is the memory requirements, but nowadays with ram so cheap it’s no big deal.

LOTS of pressure on M$ for this one. Mess up and it will definitely see mac and linux move up the world market share ratings considerably.

Using Beta 6801 feels like W7 will be effectively a service pack. Which while not a bad thing, means that no major improvements have been made since XP.
