Other info
You can connect to internet through your activesync connection

pressing the power button on the phone when not in use saves battery alot

disabling 3G saves battery

MTN installs a thing to disable HSDPA. Dunno why!!!to disable/uninstall;
start>system>remove programs>customization MTN_Disable_HSDPA>Remove>Ok. Then go Start>settings>connetions>advanced network> Hsdpa/hsupa>enable HSDPA only or Enable HSDPA/HSUPA>OK. and you done

I disabled notification on screen for incoming BT files. This really handy when sending multiple files to phone. you just let them all send then click on the little BT icon and click save all

I have come across many other little tricks
let me know if you guys are interested

Happy Xperiancings!!!!!

Hey guys I have installed Tomtom on my phone after any hours of playing.
I am more than happy to help and guide anyone.
Maybe we can make a sticky?
I just must warn that these maps are cracked and would think the policy here is not to publish those things.
Let me know.
It works like a dream
:D:D

Sticky please?

Ok here goes:
Step number:

Sony X1 with south African maps working with Tomtom
1) You must download the cab files to install the actual software from Garmin.
(I can upload them if someone tells me where to do it - I do have a rapidshare account)

2) Once you have downloaded the cabs, there are 4 in total but you only need to use one, I am not sure which one but I think it will be the "TTN_7.910.9185_Unsigned" Cab file. I would put it in the memory card via your pc.

3) Navigate to your card and click on the file and it will install the actual Navcore software (this is the actual Tomtom program). Once this is done you should see tomtom on your home screen. If you try and run the program, it will let you set it up but you will have no maps. and you would now need to crack the maps as well. You would need your device ID. Search for the following file: "ttnavigator.bif" open with Notepad and you will see the device id and will need this to crack.
I have the tool to crack as well.

4) you need the latest maps for South africa which are :Southern Africa 730, I also have these so dont worry.

5) you now need to copy the map folder which should read: "Southern Africa 730.2001" into your device\documents
You now have the maps without any voices though. You need to install the voices and sounds which I can also upload. This would be in the \program files\navigator.

Now you are all set to go, the first lock on to Satellites takes a while but then is fast.
I am really upset it does not come free, google maps is a joke and this is where my Iphone falls behind.
Please ask if it doesnt work.
I hope it does.

I'm in fourways

Ok one of 2 things.....
1)I can upload the maps to Bitfarm : 250 megs with everything
2) You can meet me in Midrand and I will cut it to DVD for you and then once you get it, you can pm me and we can do it together.

Dont install toucflo 3d

I have not installed touchflo 3d since my first X1 but have heard from other okes that the Touchflo 3d manila cab from xperia.net is a very realiable version. Can anyone confirm this???

I have never used TomTom, is it good GPS program, better then garmin mobile XT?? Because if it is I will be more than keen to install it on my X1.

Tsponge once you try TomTom let me know how it compares to Garmin mobile XT because will be keen to swap over.

One slight problem is that i am in CT:(

Look I have had the Tomtom actual GPS for car for years, IMO it does not compare to Gamin but then maybe some Garmin guys will rather install Garmin. Tomtom for me is the best.

I am more than happy to send it to you via post on Monday.

I am still deciding
but I think tomtom is more customizable (change maps, change voices) and Garmin interface(moving through menus etc) is better but I haven't spent enough time with either yet to decide.
Has anyone installed the homescreen plus plus app yet ?
it really awesome
I installled the latest touchflo 3d last night and it was a nightmare
I won't go near it for a while again.....

Another cool app is my mobiler. It allows you to control the phone from your desktop.....pretty awesome

Ok marine1 I have downloaded the south african map version 730.2001 :) :)
Now what do I do

It would be greatly appreciated, i will reimburse you for any expenditure.

i am not a fan boy for either so which ever one for me works the best I shall use that one. Garmin moblie is great but would be cool if i can try out TomTom.

I have a 4 meg line at home so if sending via post is a hassle, i will download it.

Thanks a lot man
