This is a mod I have been working on for the past few years to bring NFS III up to modern standards. I have currently abandoned work on the mod for NFS III due to difficulty of working with the engine eg. texture sizes are limited to 256x256, cars are limited to 10000 poly's etc. ! Currently I am porting most of the work i did to the more advanced NFS 4 game Engine and it is looking promising already.

Hera are a few screenshots of the replacement car select menu I created for the need for speed III mod i was working on

I also posted this in the gaming section.

Arg, no AA. What resolution is the game running at here? And are you going to make this available to everyone to download? :D

The game doesnt support AA  ! The game can run on NFS III only up to 1600x1200 but on NFS 4 it can run at any resolution that the gfx card permits however the menu's and showrooms are limited to 640x480 (not my fault blame EA canada for that)

LoL. Still, I think it was hard work and you are really dedicated with this, cause I tried some of the cars for MW (like you told me to) and I think I did like 4 cars and then I thought, stuff this, I'm gonna play tankies. :D

This looks very cool dude... I'll def give it a run!

Thanx.

The finished game will Have
+- 40 high poly cars
it will also contain tracks from nfs 2 SE namely
Last resort
Proving ground
Mystic peaks and North country
New loading screens and title screen
Improved effects e.g sparks, snow etc.
High res skyboxes etc.

I was working on an mp3 audio plugin also but abandoned it since it proved extremely problematic.

Here's a screenshot of the last resort track from NFS II ported and running on the NFS III game Engine. The track works almost perfectly, just need to fix some of the replay cameras and update the textures when i port it to the NFS 4 Engine (dunno when i'll have time for that).

I did some more work on the mod again ! created a new Title screen and loading screens for all the nfs 2 tracks thats running on the nfs3 & 4 engines. and updated the skybox on the rocky pass track. also managed to get the outback track to work in a way just have to sort out the desktop crashes with that track ! will post more pics soon

oh yea!... pitty we can't mod Most Wanted and expand terrain and cars and up the graphics a dash... the new lot of offerings from EA has really disappointed!

So sad that people can make mods for an old game that is more appealing than the newest best ideas and releases a multi billion dollar company can come up with:(

The newer nfs games seems to have lost the essence of what actually makes nfs, nfs so to speak

Update Screenshots of the outback track running on the nfs 4 engine NB car chrome isnt enabled (Dnt ask Y) ! NFS 2 is so old it doesnt allow ingame screenshots so i had to take nfs2 screenies wit my fone

A comparison of The outback track, the original track running on the orginal nfs 2 engine it was intended to run on the left and on the right is the track ported and running on the nfs 4 high stakes game engine.

Loading screen

I've modified the original loading screen to fit in with the theme of how all the original nfs4 loading screens look.

Update ! :D

North Country from NFS 2 SE Running on the NFS 4 Engine ! Track works perfectly (even track animations)

I wont be making any texture changes as I like like the track as it is and Creating textures similiar to the original ones are really time consuming.

RockyPass with the new skybox I have added !
RockypassUpdate.jpg

Will change some of the textures but not all of it because Rockypass is one of the most beautiful nfs tracks that has ever been created.

Also ported Pacific Spirit from NFS 2 SE to NFS 4 ! It is a nice track to drive on but all of the textures of the track is really bad (in its original format) and I will have to create a lot of new Higher resolution textures to improve the look of the track !

I havent had time to concentrate on the mod recently because i was working on this :

F4301.jpg

It is the f430 from Test drive Unlimited which I have ported to NFS 5 Porsche 2000 (it features a new more detailed interior, BBS Challenge Rims, plenty of custom textures and the driver from nfs 6. (This was a B**** to get working in the game as the NFS 5 engine is limited to 25000 polys per car and the original TDU model had more than 32000 polys, In the end alot of detail was removed and alot of detail was added and the car was still kept within the polylimit to make it work in NFS 5)

This is amazing stuff!
NFS III was the only NFS that I ever liked.
Got totally addicted to it.

Is there a place I can download this?
I still have the original CD in my cupboard somewhere.

U can download it from NFSCars.net (only the f430 and 307 wrc, at the moment for nfs 5, and the menus for nfs 3 and 4, they are under their respected tabs on the site) under the porsche unleashed tab ! I will upload it locally within the week
