iPhone still calls the shots

wow this is almost a carbon copy of an article last week..and the iphone did bring some new things to the market. But what sold more iphones than any other feature is the apple logo on the phone.
Its really just an ipod that can phone and to a degree browse the web. Most of its features arent alluring to any one who seriously wants to use their phone, even the most basic symbian phone has more "real life" bussiness functionality.
The iphone is for fashion fundi's,mac fan boys and hardcore music lovers (and people who like to get their screen smudgy)

To a degree? The safari browser is by far the best browsing experience I've had on a phone.

This article is just embarassing for a few reasons. Firstly, calling Windows Mobile a clunky operating system. Are you seriously kidding me!? Have you even used Windows Mobile? Okay, enough of that. Then there the "much anticipated Android handset that failed to materialize." Did you not see the HTC Magic?

Not only does this website report its news a week late, it also does it inaccurately. MyBroadband is a joke in more ways than one.

If the opposite of "chunky" is smooth, then yes WM is "chunky compared to some newer phones like the iPhone 5800 and Storm!

Nokia is pouring some serious money not only into Symbian but also their Series60 UI that sits on top of it. If you look at other UI enhancements by companies such as Samsung, SE and LG then it is clear who will become the leader of touchscreens and stay leader of the smartphones.

Its not clear, they still chasing...

They'll get there. Also remember, this is personal computers all over again. Symbian can run on any hardware while iPhone (and-i-does-nothing-else) OS only runs on apple hardware. The other fruits like blackberries also have this problem.

Symbian (and windows mobile unfortunately also) can be put on a device from any manufacturer should they wish to do so. You can't have that with fruits.

Oh, and for the record, the first touchscreen phone was Symbian. Well, EPOC, but that is a 16bit predecessor of Symbian. Long life Ericsson R380 ! :p

See, this is where you're making a small mistake Rouxenator,

the iPhone OS, and things like WinMobile can run on any hardware just like Symbian.

True - it can - but in real life (the one we are living now) it will be only WM and Symbian that finds there ways onto hardware from different makers.

We all know (and some love) apple for the fact that they keep their software close and their hardware even closer (and their prices even higher).

I to a degree agree with rouxenator, symbian seems to strangely all of a sudden find its way on to more and more manufatures phones. (and quite impressed by samsungs implementation) and symbian 9.5 looks beautifull. way more stylish (and customisable) than the iphone's GUI.
And I'll love to see the day the iphones OS finds its way onto other manufactures devices. (and I'll make appoint of steering away from it).

:p Nice1 <moLe> .... steering away from it :D

The thing with Symbian is that is has come a very long way, and it has seen the world with many faces (S60, UIQ, MOAP) and while some things have resulted in a dead-end (UIQ and Series80) the underlying flexibility and ability to adapt and consume (new trends) will never die.

Symbian FTW :p
