Internet access to double in next 5 years

only double in 5 years?

If those are the projections then not enough is being done and nobody has plans to drop prices too much.

They should be targetting a doubling from current numbers in the next 2 years...

"It will gradually bring down the cost and increase the capacity available to consumers and business – but not overnight.”

yeah..... they will drop their prices by 10%, and say they need to pay for new infrastructure, and they will never drop the prices from there as they will say that they will be making such a huge loss and there profit margins wont be as high bla bla bla bla bla.

what ever happens in the first month of the new lines arriving will be the only changes...other than that companies wont even bother turning their heads for the consumers

This is a non-article. All I can say is "So What?"
Was this supposed to be dramatic, or do they just feel obliged to say something.

Lot of hype going around. I don't see the seacom cable (&others) being the panacea of SA internet problems. The stake holders in these cables are just about always the same people.

It's like everything else here, we collude and keep prices high. In SA someone would put their prices up and others will follow instead of the opposite happening.

and the actual capacity that was available until the end of last year will increase 30-fold.
Probably not the only thing that will increase 30-fold...
It will gradually bring down the cost and increase the capacity available to consumers and business – but not overnight.”
Probably not.

While the number of users may double and the cost decrease slightly, what are the chances that any of us will actually get either good service or support? More than likely even the current crap service will drop by half!
