More broadband bang for your buck

Bla bla bla. More garbage. Give me uncapped 20 meg lines for R299 and then we can talk. We have been bending over for these ISP's for years now, I don't believe a word they say.

/goes back to bending over for Telkom.

I can't actually believe how far behind SA is with regards to ADSL, I'm an ex SA living in Greece where we have never heard of "capped" adsl and believe it or not everyone is complaining that our Adsl is too expensive (I'm paying about R200 for a 24Mb ADSL2+ connection which includes unlimited phonecalls to National and about 24 International numbers as well as 60 minutes free to cell phones).............

Excuse me but wtf was this article all about? Sounded like a cut and paste job from some other countries telecomms industry rag. Got nothing at all to do with South Africa and mentions very little relevance. Please hire a staff writer who knows how to actually write an article instead of just cutting and pasting from other sources on the Internet. This gobbledygook crap means nothing to us.

This article is a blatant rip-off from here... and gives no credit to it's source...

Is this what MyBB has come to?

Agree 100%, but even international news sites have to have "content" to seem to have "fresh" news. Just ignore these "articles".

I find that pretty much 80% of the articles on MyBB that I read, actually have sensationalistic titles designed to get clicks. "More broadband bang for your buck" indeed, if you're not South African.
Really, rather don't bother with posting articles if this drivel is the quality you expect us to get used to.
The writer should go work at The Sun or Huisgenoot or something.

Leave him be, he even got your attension span activated. Not his fault that Africa and in particular South Africa sucks on the hind tit due to their own fault due to greed, corruption and just plain stupidity. We can see where Africa was in the row when intelegence and braincells were issued.

More blah blah. TI prices have hardly come plumeting down in the past few year. Were still waiting for major price drops.....imminent!!!

The writer should go work at The Sun or Huisgenoot or something.

lol. I was thinking of people magazine - they're full of fiction!

Ya whatever dude.Biggest load of BS i ever heard......

+1. At least give the original source as well.

I thought the article had some well researched data, even if it was for the rest of the world. The numbers were crunched but not referenced or the article credited. (naughty) Actually they were, sort of "The latest tariffs collated and published by Point Topic".

When the prices overseas go up they are immediately passed on to us, the RSA consumer, when overseas prices go down we never see that. Why are we so out of step with the rest of the world?

Why are these price drops, 30% plus, not passed onto us?

Read the last paragraph of the original post and then read this post.

Let's make a 'subscriber grab' and take back our power.

Rofl. DUDE! You got to face facts... mybroadband/myadsl is a business now. They (rpm and co) don't care about quality of articles anymore... They care about reader volumes. Sensationalism equals more eyeballs on ads... more ads = more MOOLAH :D

TBH though, the quality of mybroadbands tripe... err articles has always been pretty shyte. Repetitive crap bolstered with Vodacom and insurance ads FTW :D

Actually, Newsblaze 'ripped it off' from here: http://point-topic.com/content/dslanalysis/BBAtfq109.htm

But the real problem here seems to be a complete lack of understanding on how the press engine works, with press releases issued by organisations and then picked up and published by news outlets (such as News Blaze, myBroadband, The Sunday Times, or whoever).

It really would make sense to first educate oneself on a topic (for example the concept of a press release or news wire) before firing from the hip. (And end up looking like a complete tit )

So do we then have to be satisfied with shovelware repeatedly posted under the (dis)guise of competent journalism?

Do you really believe every article in every newspaper / magazine / news site is written as an original by some journalist?

News sites (like this one) will scan the huge number of press releases issued every day by organisations and news wires and pick up those the editor deem relevant to his target audience.

Press Releases are typically issued by organisations to market themselves. In this case Point Topic issued an article about some research they did. These articles are designed so that interested parties can find them and buy some product (research in this case) from them. Just like Vodacom will issue a Press Release on the launch of a new product.

Press Releases are issued so that journalists can use them in whatever way they see fit, obviously as long as they don't change the original message. But they're free to use and edit it as they see appropriate for their publication. Could be reduced to an one-liner or a complete repost. Editors will normally massage the article to fit in with the intended audience.

Most on-line news sites will only post press releases they picked up from the wire and will not even attempt to write their own (as they mostly have no journalists on board, just a web master). myADSL is actually one of the few sites that do research and write own articles on the local and international industry and even stage industry events. BTW, when last did you attend the News Blaze Annual Conference? Or the Sunday Times one on Broadband in South Africa?

This specific article is clearly aimed at the broadband community and the last time I looked, myBroadband was exactly that. So it got picked up and published.

When Clark Kent worked at the Daily Planet, that was how it was done and to this day it is the way the press engine works.

Don't be stupid. But some of us do live in hope of seeing the odd interesting, well-researched, critical article here on this site instead of the usual unadulterated crap. There are actually still journalists who write their own stories, y'know, rare though it may be.

But tell me this, if you're not getting from this site what you so desperately hope to see, why do you bother to come here, read the articles and even comment on them?

Surely there are other sites where you can find what you're looking for so you don't need to lament the "shovelware repeatedly posted under the (dis)guise of competent journalism"?
