Broadband: SA versus the world

This is to be expected, esp as long as the DoC, guavamint and !c@sa keep stuffing around....
 
IMO if VC and MTN lowers prices to under DSL prices i think 80% of subcribers will move to them.

Give me 3 months as CEO of VC and VC will have the biggest wireless data subscriber base in the world.:)

But ya, iam only a techie.
 
This article is so depressing. It feels like we in a broadband apartheid era. Where everything is such a struggle for us South Africans. WHY OH WHY :sick:

Getting the customers is the easy bit; providing a decent usable service is where things get a bit sticky:(.
 
Very good article, Rudolph. And what a sad story. But it is a story that needs to shouted from the rooftops.

Despite Seacom's imminent arrival, this is not a time to get complacent. As a nation, we have so much catching up to do, it's frightening.
 
This, and the crime rate... are the only two things that really depress me about South Africa. The traffic I can live with... the bank charges I can live with, even (to an extent) Eskom, I can live with. Even Julius, Jacob, the SACP, Cosatu and the strikes.... But the broadband debacle and the crime are seriously giving me stress.
 
Lagging broadband is just a symptom of the deeper problem, too many unemployed and uneducated.
15 years of stalling must come to an end now.
 
The only reason I choose wireless over fixed line (and I'm sure many of the 60% agree) is that's it easy to get linked up. I was up and running within an hour on my 3G - but a few months on ADSL.

The mere thought of dealing with Telkom and waiting for months, makes me want to vomit.

Because local consumers and industries are suffering from bad broadband. Meanwhile the corporates who serve this slop to us are coining it, with very little incentive to cut prices and improve services. They need to be told in every shape, manner, and form the status quo is just not good enough.

:D im happy with my 3g hsdpa hsupa umts wat wat....... never used fixed lines and i dont see my self doing that.:D
