Check what just popped in my mail

Dear TelkomInternet customer

from 2 June 2009, local data will be charged at only R15.00 per GB!

We would also like to use this opportunity to answer some frequently asked questions about local data and our free local data promotion.

Due to a regulatory change, we are required to change our current products to include local data. In essence, the regulatory requirement stipulated that we are not allowed to cap our users on local data.

In order for TelkomInternet to adhere to this regulatory requirement, we introduced free promotional local data with each package. However, if the promotional free local data on your specific package was exceeded, TelkomInternet customers were charged R25.55 per GB since 1 February 2008.

However, as part of our drive to provide greater value to our customers, TelkomInternet is pleased to announce that as from 1 June 2009, we will drop the price per GB to R15.00

9.Do I get extra free local with every TopUp?

I find this one strange. When I asked 3 different agents on the phone, they all confirmed that you get free local with top up. The mind boggles...

expensive

R15/GB in the year 2009 is ridiculously expensive. We need less than R5/GB so content providers can start providing us with (HD) TV on demand. Doesn't IS charge R130 for 30GB local? That's R4/MB, no reason why SAIX cannot provide it cheaper than that.

So, local out of bundle is cheaper. Yay. Have the local bundles increased, or are these still pathetic? They have just admitted their prices have been a rip-off for the last while

if one reads between the lines, is it possible that they are saying that they are doing away with the 'free' promotional local bandwidth included with DoBroadband packages and will start charging R15 per GB from the very first bit of local bandwidth?

Axxess has been selling prepaid local SAIX bandwidth for R12 a gig for ages now, so what's the big deal?

Ryan411, no you still get your free local... quote from their Q&A:

R15 a GB - a good start, but a loooong way to go!!!!! SEACOM...hurry up and get here!

How do I find out if a website is locally hosted?
Answer: TelkomInternet suggests that you contact the owners of the website to find out if their website is hosted within South Africa.

You are joking! Why don't they put something on their website where people can input a URL and their backend can check the routing table to determine if its local. Would take my 10 mins to put together something like that!! Maybe an idea for MyBB :D

When does my free local data kick in?
Answer: Local data kick’s in once your blended threshold has been exceeded. In other words, once you are capped.

What a pile of carp. How about separating local and int!!

I got the e-mail as well, phoned to ask if I could be capped when I reach local "FREE" limit? Was told no, so I replied... well then cancel my account!
