National broadband policy a top DoC priority

Hi,

Can anyone please explain to me how the DoC can influence the reduction in the prices of Broadband?
 
It is however not clear whether the SANBF will be involved in the DoC’s drafting and implementation of their national broadband policy.’

Thats the part that scares me. Another 3 years to draft, 5 to implement and were got a new minister by that time...... and then it starts again, draft.... implement ect ect:mad:

Hopefully through a competent and efficient regulator. But it will mean basically scrapping ICASA and starting again since ICASA in it's current form is about as efficient as an elephant on a hang-glider.
 
I must say it is definitely reason to get more optimistic. Sounds to me like the most coordinated strategy (or at least a set of goals) that we have seen so far.
 
I hope they get to it. For some reason I suspect that the new government really wants to improve things. Unlike the previous times. I am crossing my fingers.

Yes, remember that the old guard were all Mbeki supporters. All the fat cats and Telkom shareholders are now persona non grata with the new government. There is no reason for Zuma to keep feeding them. So we might just see some genuine change now.

I hope you are right. Just worried that "Genuine Change" simply means a new guard and a fresh supply of lean cats all lined up at the feeding bowls?
 
Im sure the Ministry has gained a lot of knowledge about communications technology from checking his email every morning since his appointment at the DoC.

The cafeteria food at the DoC offices sure is better than at the SANDF
 
Why always all this talking from the DoC about high communication costs and it should be addressed? But never I hear and see that something is done. How long will I always read the same thing?

I WANT TO SEE WHAT THE DOC IS PAID FOR. I WANT TO SEE SOLUTIONS.

All we hear is that the broadband prices should come down. The ISP's say no, it will be very slow. WHY? Do they want fill there pockets first like Telkom has been doing all this years. They said, do not expect price drops soon. Maybe we will get more for R200, but not pay R100 for the same. Why?

WE WANT REALISTIC PRICES. WE DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE 4x4's OF THE ISP's WIFES or the jetski's of there children.

I WANT MY REALISTIC PRICED BROADBAND N O W !!!!!!
