One-account broadband service launched

This is certainly a handy account for travelers looking to minimize their broadband bill while on the road. The non-expiring account makes it an attractive alternative to current 3G/HSDPA and Wi-Fi services.

The standard price for 3G is 62c per MB while the Happy Hour rate is 55c per MB. For Wi-Fi access the basic cost is 49c per MB which is reduced to 35c per MB between 5 pm and 8 pm. The price for ADSL bandwidth is 6.5c per MB while the reduced Happy Hour rate is 4.7c per MB.

I can see how this could work for some people... interesting to see how it pans out though.

4.7c per MB * 1024 = R48.128 for 1 GB of ADSL 17H00 - 20H00.

Are these prices vat inclusive?
AND ... IT'S UNSHAPED!

I think it is quite a good product to some, especially travellers. Simmilar to Sainet's offering, but with WiFi. Well done to you.

Are you not looking at targetting customers that do not need all the option? For example, I just need internet at home. I cannot get ADSL, so am stuck with 3G. If I use you guys and want 2GB per month, I will pay R1269.76 per month, as apposed to R389 using Vodacom.

this looks like a good alternative to existing 3G prepaid connection, for folks using less than about 250Mb pm.
I like the idea of paying per meg, instead of adding a data bundle which u gotta monitor when it runs out... especially for us who have sales guys on the road, and run out of data.
I have a few users who need connection.... when they need it, so 1 month they may need 50Mbs while the next month they need a lot more.
Pay per meg is good while we do not have indefinate roll over.

Is 3G/HSDPA coverage on MTN or Vodacom network... or both?

Hi Shred

Thanks for the compliments! In response to the question, we offer prepaid broadband with full rollover and therefore cannot compare with Vodacom's bundle rate, rather their out-of-bundle rate of R2.00/MB.

We don't have a minimum cap - you only pay for what you use. This is not an ideal option for a high-end 3G user like yourself, but we are working on bundle options to suit your needs, so watch this space...

You can find cheaper, but I dont think that this is the topic to argue over pricing, cool idea, hope that it picks up.

Just one question, why is the happy time only till 8?

I'd personally like to see happy time from 7 till 10 though

Not being able to simultaneously connect is a drawback. The wife would be home connected on ADSL while I travel (3G or wifi).

So why would anyone want to get 3G from you when they can just get it direct from Vodacom and cut out the middleman?

We want to cater for your needs. Consider the following:
- We offer a converged account
- Our rates compare favourably with other prepaid/out-of-bundle providers
- Various other product features such as Happy Hour and great customer support

We found that 17:00 - 20:00 is a very busy broadband timeslot and decided to make it as cheap as possible to start with, but we will definitely investigate further Happy Hour options. :)

We just launched our service and our aim is to constantly bring in new features to keep our customers extremely happy. This is one of the first elements on our improvement list.
