HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium)

So I got myself one of these puppies last Friday...
I was wondering if anyone had any cool tips or tricks for this handset?

A cool trick for that puppy is to train it to jump through hoops ... ;)

Give it to me!!! Or you can buy me one and I'll help you figure out some cool tips and tricks!

Hehe - sadly still two months to go before I can upgrade.

To some it may seem trivial but the exclusion of a 3.5 mm audio jack is - for me - a pity. HTC - according to reports - will include 3.5 mm jacks in future devices.

... therefore one good trick I want to hear about is how to use one's own 3.5 mm earphones on the TP2 without flimsy adaptors etc.

One other trick ... to get Leaf/MTN/Vodacom/whoever to offer this device at prices comparable to the N97, its main competitor. Some reported on this forum that the N97 goes for under R400 pm (no pay-in) at MTN. The TP2 goes for R600 pm :( ... right there in iPhonosphere where Apple rules.

Where'd you get it?

 OMG, I hate you :(
Where did you buy it? I want one :(

Nashua Mobile on Vodacom Talk 120. Had a hefty pay in though. Unfortunately I'm not sure of the exact amount as my entire family pitched in for my birthday.

I would've also liked this feature since the supplied headsets are rubbish. I've seen adapters for around R100 though, might consider getting one.

They seem to spread certain key features over different models, without one having all the features. I guess they ensure the sales of some models that way. Kinda sucks :(

You're lucky :) How is the phone in general? I always hear a lot of complaints about the Windows Mobile software...

I'm a HUGE WinMo fan. Have been for many years. I upgraded from a P3400 so the change is quite significant for me.

Of course, these are all my opinions but:
The TouchFlo is quick and responsive. Sometimes if you slide your finger over the tabs too fast it gets confused and will stay on the last accessed tab. I find if the phone's been idle for a while, it takes about half a second to respond when switching between tabs. Although once you move off the first tab, it's quick again.

The keyboard is awesome. Takes a bit of getting used to... Like I still gotta think about where the full stop is etc. The apostrophe is a secondary character so you gotta press the function key and then the apostrophe key to get the symbol. Tiny nuisance for me, but again, not major.

The screen utterly sublime! It's massive and the display is crystal clear. Black looks really good on this display. But as usual with most HTC's, when setting a photo as a wallpaper, the quality isn't good. Perhaps there's something I'm missing cos the supplied wallpapers are crystal clear.

The camera doesn't have a flash so if you're taking photo's in an area that's not well lit, the photo quality is very poor. In the sun however, the quality is really nice. But for me, the camera is a secondary feature. I don't believe any camera on a phone can compare to a proper camera.
My favourite feature on the camera though is the panoramic option... It allows you to take 3 photos that it merges (horizontally) as one for a panoramic shot. It creates an overlay of about a third of the 1st & 2nd photos so you know how to place the following shot. *hard to explain, hope this makes sense*

The only draw back of this phone is the size & weight. It's quite large and bulky. Although I can appreciate the weight as the phone feels more solid that way.

It also come packaged with a leather carry pouch. This adds more bulk but does keep the device looking pretty. I will definitely be investing in an InvisibleShield soon though.

Another downer is that there is no MicroSD included. Really sucks considering the price of the phone :(

Wow this is turning into a full review... If I've missed anything let me know :D

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this device doesn't have GPS which the first Touch Pro 2 did have... Also the hardware for a radio exists but the software doesn't allow usage. Need to check xda for how to activate it

Always a fix/tweak available here:

Yeah, I saw that forum a while back, but I was always worried if those things are stable. I'm worried that if I had a WinMO phone, that installing that will stuff up the phone and/or void the warranty. Does it void the warranty?

charlie_82's full review...

Lol, thanks for that. It seems like a really lovely phone. The first time I saw it, I almost climaxed :o

From what I understand installing a custom ROM does void the warranty because of the SPL thingy.
But so far the OS is quite satisfactory so I don't see the need to change it. The TouchFlo is also optional so it can always be disabled if you don't like it or prefer the standard WinMo setup

My mistake, seems it does have GPS. I think I just didn't realise it cos Google Maps doesn't provide turn-by-turn directions.

Will maybe look at getting Garmin Mobile or Igo8
