MXit tackles The Star Newspaper and eTV

Its about time!

Sadly though the BCCSA is so useless the case will go nowhere, pity.
 
DANG tootin'! ..although, to look at it a step back: MXit has previously let the sensationalised (ab)uses of its name in the press go unchalleneged. A %tin_hat% theory as to why: how else do you get front page advertising of your name without having to pay a single cent for it - great return on investment any which way you look at it.

Although, to be fair: I can't recall now whether previous abuses of the MXit name were as egregiously tar-and-feather as this one - they may have ..but, as observed above, MXit may have let it ride. They're bigger/better/badder now and, in all likelihood no longer need the free exposure as much as they used to ..now they get the same free advertising by sitting up and protesting! :D
 
Off topic: Have you ever went to the cinema in the recent past and experienced a little child or a teenager sitting next to you Mxiting away? Have you ever been to a circus and seen a child no older than 10-12 years old be more interested in Mxit than the ferocious Tigers?
 
Well - there are a lot of "journalists" out there that really only needs a couple of loose words and they will build their own story around it. And this is across all media. From house prices having rosy futures mid-2008 to MXiT abducting kids.

Funny enough it seems to be a world wide trend. [Elsewhere in the world they blame the internet for reducing funding for quality journalism.]

The problem is newspapers and other media outlets use the "free speech" veil for any criticism directed to them. I was totally against policing the media, believing that it should be self-regulatory. But unfortunately most people don't really, really care about the truth. The problem with a free speech democracy is that people can choose to hear their own preferred version of the truth remaining oblivious to anything that resembles hard facts.

Why is MXiT such a target - because older parents don't understand it, it has become this black hole on which to blame everything. And thus they reinforce their delusion each time they see articles like ones in The Star. Even now I can guarantee there will be perfectly sane parents reading this article, reading MXiT's arguments, reading how the technology works and they will STILL blame MXiT - even if it is by FAKING ignorance.

I guess in the end it is pretty simple, just have an internal find and replace mechanism. If you see the word MXiT in the media replace it by "Bad Parenting".

Frankly this is EXACTLY like blaming death to drunk driving on Toyota or Volkswagen. It is totally ridiculous. Maybe it is not the media that should be regulated. They should criminally charge parents in some of these cases for negligence. But I guess then we will start seeing headlines like "MXiT parent goes to jail", with statements like "By allowing his kid to chat on MXiT Piet Pompies not only lost his daughter, he also have a stiff jail sentence."

Win some, lose some.

I am probably better of playing the purity that is World of Warcraft :-)

Tsk, could she not have "met" him on Facebook, Chat rooms, etc using cell to access internet? Whats the difference? Seems to me more a case of seeking an excuse for the behaviour of a overheating young slut, with inapropiately trained and lack of proper parental guidance.

last I heard was that her parents were refusing to tell where she'd been and what had happened ... and that after the huge media show to try help the parents find the girl

... now there's gratitude! :(

Probably because the truth would reveal the bad parenting, that's why they refuse to say. Where is that silhouetted interrogator when you need him?

ok. so lets put things in perspective

1. who bought her the cell phone?
2. who paid for her airtime?
3. who did not take the time of getting onto Mxit themselves to chat to her and check who else she has as friends
4. who did not manage her time with her "friends" either face to face or online?


and so they blame MXit! Interesting..... shame on them.
 
I am so glad Mxit finally fights back ,I am 100% behind them, Oh and thanx for the new update Mxit ,its fab,
 
We should also be annoyed at our medias tiny vocabulary.

Every time an individual or a company speaks out publicly against something they are reported as "slamming" or "lashing out". Learn some new terms you lazy buggers! If I hear the aforementioned terms one more time I am going to vomit. It actually makes reading the news boring.
