Together with the "failures" of Eskom, SA Airways and other public enterprises, the SABC’s meltdown was indicative of government’s failure to run its corporations effectively

Agreed, as long as they keep all politicians, BEE, beneficiaries and gravy trainers out of the affairs of the SABC they should be ok.

1.) Who voted 'No'? I would love to hear your reasons?

2.) I would love to see it going private, if only so I don't have to waste money on this institution.

3.) But I just do not see them going private, as they do not have a concept or product which the public will throw money at ... especially if I have to wait until a game of soccer or rugby is over before I can watch it 'live'!

Yea, if they privatize, then they'd have to scrap TV licences! They should go the same route as MNet, set top box and if you don't pay, you can't use!.

(but we know they won't do this!)

Non-privatised entities were prone to corruption as decision-making was made for political and personal gain, rather than economic reasons, as had been evident with the SABC.

...and that is exactly why it will never be privatised.

Privatise it. Clearly it's not working government-owned, so what do they have to lose?

I voted no. This could just be worse than privatising Telkom.

It's not ready for privatisation.

First split it up into separate entities and then run the entities for 1 year, and then open the floor for proposals for privatisation, with preference towards local purchasers.

This thing belongs to us (the people) and it is an asset. We had better make dead sure that we're getting our money's worth for it, and that it's not simply bought up by the ANC for propaganda purposes.

An assest?
Hmm, so these are assets too:
- being the laughing stock because of high corruption
- total disrespect because of rampant incompetence
- multi-million rand debt because of gross mismanagement
- pathetic infighting because my ANC-family is not yours
- attempting to "fix" their financial situation by raising TV licences (it's smallest income stream)
- and, and, and ...

I certainly don't want those assets - you can give that away thank you very much.

They will never privatize. The "speaker box" of the ANC will be gone.

The SABC’s competition, etv, had been able to make a profit out of broadcasting without benefiting from licence fees and having to face the same regulations as the SABC regarding local content and languages.

What an ignorant comment from the DA. Comparing an organisation which broadcasts TWO channels, to an organisation which operates 4 channels and at least 18 radio stations.
