Local proxy service made available free of charge

wonder what the are caching ? and what else gets captured/logged via these "free" proxy's mmmmm
 
I think people need to help this site stay alive. Be it either through sponsorship or donations.

Why does everything have to fail.

Hey all ,

I understand the concerns of the users in general and i knew this would raise a few questions but you can ask around for other users that have used the webproxy , HTTP Proxy about their accounts and they will tell you themselfs they have not encountered any problems.

All that gets logged is your IP + What URL you visit this is to comply with our rules since in the past we had 1 or 2 users browse Child Porn and this could be very problematic for me as i would get taken to court as i am responsible for what goes on within the proxy.

As i said previously if users feel that this is insecure to them they may use the proxy only for downloads and general browsing since that is what the Proxies are there for also i was hoping that this would increase our local content range meaning we get more things out on local then we normally would have so lets say you wanted to download an application or anime episode or something that you would not need to have international data for it but that you could rather find it on a local site.

Zaine however said that he could not comment on his local torrent website ZATorrent due to problems with the acceptable usage policy (AUP) of his current host. He is however searching for a new home for this website.

Hey Oomtas ,

I think you misunderstood , the service will be active for a long while i do not see it stopping anytime this year so please do not worry about it going down what i meant to say is i just need to make sure no one breaks the South-African IT Law as i would be held responsible for this.

So you do not have to worry about the service ending any time soon.

The moment it gets put on an international proxy list site it's over. Unless of course international IPs are being blocked.

But great service, well done.
 
Please do, I would like to second that motion for a nomination!

While its no big technological feat, it is however a truly selfless gesture, VERY rare in our country where it seems that everyone is just out to screw the next guy for everything he has.

One or two of our proxies where already listed on known proxy sites but this issue has been sorted i only allow connections to be made from the proxy through certain IP Ranges as you mentioned it would be drastic if it got out internationally.

So you do not have to worry about that :) , if you guys have any questions , and so forth feel free to drop me a PM and i will respond to it asap.
 
Interested to see how the torrent site goes though. Heck is greenlab even still going?
