R 1.14 per GB on uncapped ADSL account

R500 per month for a 384k uncapped. I pay that for 5GB. Sounds good, Staff Reporter. Tell me more!

Yes, but people will happily pay R499 for one speed daytime/nightime 384k.

Why not do it since that will only use +-100 gigs max?

Those that want the 4meg speeds, or at least their DSLAMs provide it, will happily pay R999.

"The nerve of you irresponsible users to use so much bandwidth. I mean honestly uncapped usage should be around 15gb. If users are not more responsible with their usage we're cancelling the internet. Now go to your room." Angus Hay, Neotel

During August one 384 Kbps subscriber used 873 GB – working out to R 1.14 per GB.
4 gig down per day plus 1 gig per day up equals 800 gig in 30 days? that 384kb user has to have had a 4 meg line

Isps only have themselves to blame. If all accounts were really uncapped at R100 per month they would still have made a profit. Sure, 1% of the userbase would go bananas and download "teh inerznet" but the rest would only use a few hundered megs a month.

But no, now they restrict the life out of you and then they are supprised when they offer "uncapped" that only a handfull of people make use of it, and that most of the handfull make full use of it?

Yea, ISPs only have themselves to blame.

Neotel has also recently indicated that they were surprised by the high usage on their uncapped NeoConnect Prime offering. The telecoms provider said that they expected usage a bit over 15 GB per month, but what they found was that a monthly usage of around 100 GB was not uncommon

uncapped is defined as no limits and will be used as such.

Help me out here guys...
Doesn't 'UNCAPPED' with a per gig price sound a little ironic :D
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it's uncapped at R500 and I use 100Gb, then it's R5 per gig? Or if I use 10Gb then it's R50 per gig?
Why do we allow these articles to perpetuate the misconception around the term 'Uncapped'...
In that case you can get uncapped for R79 per month if you opt to auto topup.

If you have a 4meg line you will only be restricted to 384 during office hours, at night/weekends you will have no restriction. I speak under correction.

I agree, I too want to know who is offering this service? I assume that is not an all inclusive cost however, and you'd still need to pay for the line etc separately?

I still have no idea how much I am using a month... but it is around 15 to 18 Gigs a night... and around 80 Gigs per weekend. So I estimate around 600 to 700 Gigs a month. I don't use it during office hours.
