Telkom CEO Reuben September's salary

For a big company CEO, it's more or less on par with other companies, I think what puts my back up and probably others, is the fact that his salary comes from, lets be brutally honest, ripping everyone off

If Telkom were on a par with, lets say, other European countries in terms of price, packages and service, then I wouldn't mine so much.

Imagine if MultiLinks turned a profit what his performance bonus would have been!!!

Has he ever been down a manhole or worked as a Techie.Probably got no experience so how do you rise to the top?

In view of the brilliant way in which Telkom has planned, implemented and charged for services which boost the economy by way of allowing SAAS and other Internet related business, both local and overseas, it would appear that Mr. September is being severely overpaid. When one additionally takes the innovative way in which Telkom entered the online TV arena with their online services, this feeling is highly reinforced.

The imminent announcement of the Telkom cleft stick service is eagerly awaited by business and private subscribers alike.

Finally, the huge increase in the value of Telkom shares and the increase in the number of major shareholders further engenders confidence in Telkom, its management and board.

Agreed, but don't forget. He is not doing what HE wants to do. It PAINS him to take that money and in 10 years time he will be featured in a debate regarding high costs at which time he will claim to have never agreed with it in the first place and having been against it at every step.

Poor sods

Seems odd to me that this is news. For those wanting to make Telkom bend a knee then start up and support competitors as they enter the arena. Here is hoping more arise, and do a good job.

I think the whole salary should be a performance bonus but with strict criteria, each area is worth X Rands and failure to say give schools an e-rate loses you a few mill. If you don't roll out a designated number of fixed lines in a year you lose another chunk etc. I say pay them a fortune if they work hard - I'm not against good salaries, but I'm all for excellence. No napping on the job please :).
