24% Interconnect price cut by December

Excellant news, but not enough they've been raping the customer for 10 years already 30c decrease is too low.

The big 2 also need to be fined for collusion and they should be forced to lower their termination costs for the Cell C network to zero for the next 10 years as pay back.
 
What about all the contract customers on MTN's Anytime packages? How is MTN going to adjust those tariffs, or are we getting the short end of the stick again?

Surely this will affect all call charges and as a result the companies will need to adjust the call charges within packages too?
 
Sure this is great news but why the frig cant government take this hard line approach with Telkom? Maybe its because governement has all those shares in Telkom...

I love this news but for the life of me I want to know why a hard line approach cannot be taken against Telkom?

I doubt if current contract customers will see any reductions to their existing contract tariffs as a result of changes in the interconnect rates. I would also be very surprised to see a reduction in the consumer call cost of anything near 30c due to this proposal. Overtime rates paid by consumers should see a small reduction but do not expect a 24% reduction.

But there seems to be a slight sense of favoritism and revenge here. Now that Vodacom is no longer partly owed by the government, they start making changes. Are they getting back at them?

And why are these drastic changes a priority for government in the mobile market but completely neglected if not defensive when it comes to Telkom. I sense a conflict of interest :P

Seems like government has an unfair advantage and using it to decrease it competitors profits :)
 
Good news! But I have my doubts as to whether they will achieve this by year end. The cell companies will fight to keep it up

You mean MTN and Vodacom... CellC and the others are rejoicing at the announcement!

Actually I do not believe there will be much resistance from any of the cell companies - at 90c it is still substantially above their cost (I would have liked to see a more challenging interconnect fee of say 25c) - just as I do not believe the reduction in interconnect will have a substantial impact on consumer cost.

However even a reduction to 25c does not imply much saving in consumer tariffs.
