Can we not start a petition/poll or something that will start this discussion on higher levels?

The fact that we are paying double rental is ridiculous!!!

What about the myBB conference? Are they going to talk about this at the event?
 
So, let me get this right, it's currently:
R131 per month for the copper line rental part.
R152 per month for the 384 DSLAM and the Fibre rental part.

So, you want Telkom to provide you with a service that costs R283 for a 384 line, with no telephone facilities?

No?

Well, that's what you're going to get if you actually manage to push this one through.
Much like the way "Local-Only bandwidth must be free" became "Local bandwidth may not be capped".

Correction there i want telkom to provide 384line rentel for R152 only with no copper line rental no need to make calls
 
It's all nice rationalizing the need the two line rentals (copper and fiber), yet DSL users overseas don't have these kind of costs, so what makes us special?

My brother in law pays 23Euros for his 6Mb ADSL line (no cap, no shaping, free local calls) in Germany. Why can they do it?

They have true uncapped, unshaped bandwidth for 23Euros (R276) on a 6Mb line.

That is less than our line rentals added together. How much are you paying?
 
@Nod, you cannot compare Germany's 16 million ADSL users to our paltry 400 000 ADSL users. This is the excuse Telkom has used over and over. We need a new approach.

More users don't imply that Telkom won't overcharge, it just means they will make more money. The only way to get past the DSL line rental is LLU.

The economy only indicates how many people can afford DSL, not what DSL products are offered. The German government also doesn't finance telecoms.

The same people who maintain the municipalities, eskom, saa, military ...

Why would the government maintain the local loop?
From what I could see, there are no easy solution. Some solutions are that the customer looks after his own wire, while others propose that the original owner or the SP look after it for the time it is in control of it.

everyone gave up talking about it because it's futile. the powers that be wont slaughter the cash-cow, coz then they cant keep ripping ppl off

And why praytell do we have so few users?

The government are the same people that gave you Telkom and the LL in the first place... with a bit more private sector know how and backing I can hardly see this failing.
