BCS brings Seacom bandwidth to Teraco

what is the accepted normal contention ratio? 50:1?

that would mean the cost for 4mbs uncapped would be R440/4mb line per month...

What other costs are associated with this? Do you still need an IPconnect?

We don't know, marketing just blew some more smoke up our ass so that we don't abandon South Africa for a country with better prospects (like Kenya)

Still waiting for the first ISP to being provisioning Seacom bandwidth to the SA customer. This wait is becoming frustrating .... even for me.

Not really uncapped...it will skew the formula...i think?
If i have uncapped i will be on 24/7....for the first few months just untill i downloaded the *internet*

no you wont... I have had axxess uncapped for a while.

lets assume you will ONLY be pirating.

Lets assume you love TV shows.

An hour long show (40 mins if u exclude adverts) = 360mb AVI

1000 episodes = 360gb.

assuming u download @ 450k/sec is around 8 days of non stop downloading...

there is no way you are actually able to watch 1000 episodes a month...

Also, while hard disk space is cheap, it is unlikely you you will jam 5 x 2TB into your desktop.

Our prices cater for everybody:
- Wholesale for ISP's and Carriers (Point to Point) Uncontended 1:1
- Wholesale Broadband Uncontended 1:1 (Bundeled IPConnect/Local/International)
- Consumer's Uncontended 1:1
And then your interest for end users
- A 2:1 oversell offering from as low as R 3800

All of the above is dependant on term and volume....

In theory we could cater for more on a 10:1 oversell but we want to offer the best service in the market hence we dont oversell more than 2:1

These prices exclude the last mile (Telkom TDIS or Neotel data circuit) from BCS to Customer for
uncontended 1:1 Consumer bandwidth

Lets say a call center in George requires 1 Mb/s Seacom international bandwidth

Yup you have been very positive about seacom but as i feared seacom may not be our savior.
 
there's a lot of new rims on some very expensive cars to be bought before seacom savings are passed on to us. at least in entirety anyway.
 
We heard today at the conference that there are already several ISPs who are buying Seacom bandwidth down the chain (from other providers), so you may already be using Seacom bandwidth and not know it.

Then of course we also have these guys show up today offering uncapped Seacom bandwidth for R500 a month! :D

Something which I said we would see before the year end. ;)

Who are these guys offering uncapped seacom bandwidth, name of the company? So you are using seacom uncapped and not openweb anymore?
