If I paid 1 cent for every movie, and my chinas pay 1 cent, and their chinas chinas pay 1 cent..

Well, you have a whole lot of chinas paying to download movies for cheap and we won't feel guilty anymore. Well, I don't personally, but some people might feel guilty..
 
I would like to see the stats for legal movie downloads alongside this.

No. The movie industry would want a 100 bucks each time you watch the movie and ideally they'd settle for your first born, your left kidney and your house.
 
Hmm, again this is quite convenient. Isn't this the 2nd time we have been recently updated to what are the Top pirated movies? This could be becoming a consistant way for MyBB to supply me with the names of the stuff I don't have yet. Thanks. :-)
 
How much money did these movies make when they hit big scream just as a matter of interest?

Should include that RPM so we can compare :D.
 
They should just realise that digital distribution is the way to go... Make good quality movies availible online for a reasonable price... This is better than receiving nothing at all ;)
 
I was reading the "story" of Ink the other day and the producers thanks to "pirates" for giving their movie publicity and making it one of the most popular movies without them spending a cent on marketing. Should this not open the eyes of the big movie studios?

Over the weekend something pretty extraordinary happened. Ink got ripped off. Someone bit torrented the movie (we knew this would happen) and they posted it on every pirate site out there. What we didn’t expect was that within 24 hours Ink would blow up. Ink became the number 1 most downloaded movie on several sites having been downloaded somewhere between 150,000 to 200,000 times as far as we can tell. Knowing there’s absolutely nothing we can do about it, we’ve embraced the piracy and are just happy Ink is getting unprecedented exposure.

As a result, Ink is now ranked #16 on IMDb’s movie meter and is currently one of the top 20 most popular movies in the world.

This all started as a result of the completely underground buzz that you’ve each helped us create. We’ve had no distributor, no real advertising and yet the word of mouth that you’ve generated has made the film blow up as soon as it became available worldwide. So many of you came to see the movie multiple times, bringing friends and family and many of you have bought the DVD and Blu-ray from us. All of this built up and built up and suddenly it exploded.

We don’t know exactly where this will all lead, but the exposure is unquestionably a positive thing.

If they spent less energy fighting it and more trying to make money out of it, a win-win situation can be achieved.
 
Just to mention i agree mostly with what you have all said and dont have anything to add other than "the proof is in the pudding" in this case in the "explosion" as they put it.

R5 releases differ from normal releases in that they often lack both the image post-processing and special features that are common on DVD releases. This allows the film to be released for sale at the same time that DVD screeners are released. Since these screeners are the chief source of high-quality pre-DVD release pirated movies (in comparison to cam or telesync, mostly), this allows the movie studios to beat the pirates to market. Bootlegged copies of these releases are often distributed on the Internet and in some cases, R5 DVDs may be released without an English audio track, requiring pirates to use the direct line audio from the film's theatrical release. In this case, the pirated release will be tagged with ".LINE" to distinguish it from a release with a DVD audio track.
