5/20 Mbps Wireless DSL versus 4 Mbps ADSL

After hours uncapped packages give allot more value than anything listed there. Should be on the list, cause at times it does apply.

Now please do a comparative test on how well the service actually performs. Price alone is no indicator of what to expect.

Huh ?

These are business offerings... who is going to run their business on traffic that is shaped during office ours and cheap after hours?

@alternate....ermmm...because it's informative...don't you think?

good info but not of much use to the average user.

agreed - I want to see latency, packet loss, coverage etc.
For me, the iBurst option may be the better one since Telkom cannot even get my line stable at 512, let alone 4mb.

Businesses have different needs too. We run multi GB backups overnight - and currently we need to do this between two hosted ISP services since the bandwidth does not exist outside of this environment. We could save close to a quarter million rand a year if we could host the replication services on-site. But with the lousy speeds obtainable with DSL this is not an option.

For us, an "after hours" service would be ideal - pull down our backups overnight and we win.

Staff Writer......... SIGH!

I shouldn't be surprised by the lack of useful information on this article. How can you possibly compare a fixed line service with a wireless service and not compare the actual speed vs advertised speed?

Obviously the wireless service will look moonshine and roses until you test the speed and realize that you only get 10% of the advertised speed 5% of the time, the rest of the time its less than that.

I am patiently waiting for the technology behind this solution to be revealed. What on earth is Wireless DSL anyway? Oh yes, some real speed and latency tests would be nice with some focus on the upload component.

Your powers of deduction failing you? :)

It's a carrier-grade microwave solution. The exact same technology used for all those big, fat pipes running all over the country.

wow we can cook chicken in it

For me there no contest. Physical line > mother nature air.
A bird fly past your window then your connection drops :D

I wanne see this on playing some games, or even in bad weather.. Imagin how slow we willl get then. This is probally only for browsing internet.. Now why would someone want more than 15mb to browse websites... Give us something like that for gaming.

Thanks. Please tell the marketing department to back off and just call the thing a microwave link. ;)

What does the installation cost for this look like? That kit can't be cheap.

BTW, you still owe me a beer :)

R1000 cheaper than this article stated!!

you forgot to add that it comes what NAT issues :D, you should also look at the contention ratio offered by iburst VS screamer's. also a stress test to see how they actually performs vs punting...

just can't go  zomg its cheaper
