R3807 per Mbps for SEACOM bandwidth

Ok, so does that mean, if you want the better quality contention ratio, it is better to go with BCS, and not Screamer or DigiChilli? Or is Screamer/DigiChilli just reselling at a lower price?

They are reselling. Its extremely unlikely that BCS would sell to the public.
 
This is correct: BCS is a wholesaler and does not play in the consumer market. Large corporate clients, ISPs and the like will buy from BCS, and then resell to consumers.
 
Ok, thanks. Usually wholesalers don't seem to release their pricing to the public, so when you mentioned the price, I hoped it was for the consumer as well.
 
Huh... Seacom is finally having an impact. It's about time. Well done to BCS, DigiChilli and Screamer. Keep it up!
 
So, if you assume a contention ratio of 20:1 on a 256kbps connection:

R3800 / 20 / 4 = it costs the ISP R47 per 256kbps Uncapped connection

Of course you need to factor in other costs as well (local transit, access to Telkom adsl, staff and support etc)...

This doesn't look to bad but I probably missed something (big)...
 
So looking at the uncapped 256k line at 300 rand,

So thats 1200 rand per mbps line and with a convention ratio of 30 (medium) thats 36000rand they are making for connecting 120 people per 1mbps, that doesn't sound right but is it? If so its a fair bit of money.

What I want to know is, where is WebAfrica and the likes? I really dont want to move unless my hand is forced so to speak. Come one WA, when are we getting cheap cheap?! I was part of the trial and they said something about a new product or something.....please RSVP WA.

:) Considered it...

Besides BCS sells access to IP Connect in small increments (something like 2mbps) and I seriously doubt if that would be more expensive than the International bandwidth (or maybe it will seeing that it's from Telkom). So even if it costs exactly the same per mbps as the international line it will still be under a R100 (excluding other stuff as mentioned ;) )

Where did you see the access on seacom as BCS sells it is on a 2:1 contention ratio? :confused:

Or maybe I just misunderstood you?

EDIT: It is cleverly hidden in the article :) These marketing guys are geniuses :D

Bawrak is correct: The R 3807 price per Mbps is based on a 2:1 contention ratio.

Another point: It is refreshing to see that SEACOM is starting to make a difference. It took some time to filter through, but now we are seeing new guys entering the market with aggresively prices services. SEACOM's open access model FTW.
 
Someone should tell the person that wrote this article that we use a space as thousands separator, not a comma. The comma is actually used as the decimal separator in South Africa (it's the SI standard), even though a lot of people seem to use a point (in error). So even if you choose to use a point for decimal, never, EVER use a comma as the thousands separator. It's just confusing. Don't do it. And remember, I'm watching you!
