Kindle DX pricing in SA

Sorry but Wantitall prices are wacked out!!!!

If I compare their prices to Take2's US/UK Amazon pricing then you can see how W load it up.
 
I have been tempted to get a Kindle, but I think I'll wait to see how Apples's new tablet offering pans out.

Either way, I have thousands of ebooks that I can only read on PC or Laptop, so it would be nice to be able to sit back and relax anywhere, and be able to read these things in comfort and without having to be next to a power plug.

Agreed. There prices are substantially higher just for about everything that is listed.
 
Agree, Wantitalls prices are crazy! On top of that you have to pay for delivery.

Not sure who they trying to fool.
 
I have seen some magazines using WantItAll's prices - and it completely over-inflates the price of goods - stuff that you can get much cheaper at other SA online stores. Even retail store prices are cheaper than WantItAll. So I wouldn't use them to benchmark pricing unless it was to know what price I shouldn't be paying ;-)

I feel sorry for the suckers who believe that the pricing of WantItAll is realistic.

Has anyone ever read the fine print on their 10% discount coupons? It's to a maximum of R20. Lol. Big FAIL!
 
WIA is not meant for items that you can source locally...

BUT even with that, Their prices are inflated if you ask me...

The Kindle is R3k from them, and I got a Kindle, PLUS case with shipping and import duties for less than that directly from Amazon.

Max of R20? Ha ha - that's pathetic!!
 
Cleary, WantItAll is true to their name and wants it all. If you go to the trouble of ordering something online, you can just as well do it directly with Amazon since they ship the Kindle DX directly to SA, using courier delivery, including import VAT and clearance, for significantly less:


Items: $489.00
Shipping & Handling: $ 20.98

Total Before Tax: $509.98
Estimated Tax:* $ 0.00
Import Fees Deposit $ 75.31

Order Total: $585.29

At current exchange rates (Amazon doesn't seem to offer payment in ZAR at the moment, probably because it is on pre-order), this is about R4300.

I'm not sure what justifiies a R1000 profit ...


Ps: I've been looking at the Kindle DX for ages specifically because I have stacks of documents and books in PDF format for which the Kindle DX is more suited with built-in PDF and the larger screen. But I'm keeping my credit card in the wallet a bit longer as two other devices will be announced today at the CES in Las Vegas which might be better for my purposes: QUEreader (quereader.com) and the SKIFF reader (www.skiff.com). Both these two devices make my mouth water...

Take2.co.za currently does everything I need. Brilliant company. Had two returns and they replaced my stuff no questions asked, quickly and efficiently.
 
WantItAll are ripoff artists when it come to pricing, whoever buys from them really define "a fool and his money are parted"

On the Amazon site you buy the Kindle, with shipping and even prepay all the customs duties when you check out so you really have nothing to worry about if you order it.
 
Finally ordered my Kindle from Amazon on the 23rd December, received it on the 30th December. Would have been sooner but Santa held it back in Cologne (one day) & UPS [local] screwed it up for another day.

Total cost (including shipping / clearing / VAT / etc) was R2,553.84.

Amazing bit of hardware !! :D
 
I've used wantitall multiple times before for less than mainstream artists' CD and other cool DVDs and other stuff that you dont readily get here in RSA. service was good. Yes their prices seem inflated, but this seems to be the easiest way to get stuff from eg. amazon. hassling with customs is a huge pain in the backside.

Well I've just reread the article PROPERLY this time (instead of stopping at the price and laughing)

Justin has NO clue, the major use for the DX is reading books and newspapers?!?!?! No Justin, the major use for the DX is reading books and documents which is why it has native PDF support.... and I dunno how anything like the DX can have a newspaper feel... does it flap around in the wind?

I am surprised people are even buying the Kindle from WIA instead of directly from Amazon since its cheaper to buy a Kindle + cover including shipping and import taxes than it is to buy JUST the Kindle from WIA without shipping... and I can almost guarantee Amazon will get the shipping done faster.

By the way - the Kindle 2 also now supports native PDF files. Due to the larger screen on the DX I think it's more aimed at ppl who'll be viewing documents with images/diagrams etc. Just my 2c ;)

I agree with you there. Wantitall's prices are ridiculous. Much cheaper to order the stuff they sell from international resellers even with postage included.
