Congratulations to them on generating a good return by managing to make money from something as difficult to sell as communications.. any business school would be proud of their profound achievements and ability to create money in such great amounts from things which one doesn't really actually need, namely a telephone and internet.
I stand in awe with my mouth wide open, whilst trying to grasp the boundless business skill which display themselves at Telkom. Making money from a basic human right is not an easy thing, on the contrary, convincing someone to phone their relatives or friends, or to even google for educational material, is an entirely daunting task.
Now is the time that we should all thank the people behind the scenes at Telkom - the ones who formulate prices and policies - for what they have done. They have proved to us all that a conscience and patriotism actually isn't absolutely necessary to keep the human body alive, and that one can live a good life and thrive on the hard-earned money from people living in a country with an unemployment rate of 40%.
Well done Telkom, you have my vote.. I bow in front of you, although it is to hide my rose red cheeks at the embarassment to which South Africa is presented every day. If anyone ever asks me if you are a South African company I shall reply 'Definitely not' and then bite my tongue for having told a lie. I cannot fathom why you are doing to this country's people what you are doing, but I can assure you people have long memories when it comes to companies like you, and by gad, the wheel does turn.
But congratulations anyway - may the resounding loudness of your overwhelmingly hollow victory echo in the cavernous space which is your pride in South Africa.
