Hey Friends,

I am proud to announce ANOTHER reduction in OpenWeb Internet Solutions account pricing!

These prices will come into play from 1 November 2005:

These accounts include 30GB of local access after you're capped, minus your cap purchased. Eg 30G - 5G.

Raw ADSL Accounts, with 56k shared International browsing after cap: (prices include VAT)
2GB including 30GB Local Cap: R164 per month
3GB including 30GB Local Cap: R199 per month
5GB including 30GB Local Cap: R329 per month
7GB including 30GB Local Cap: R439 per month
10GB including 30GB Local Cap: R589 per month


OpenBROWSE packages: OpenBROWSE allows for international browsing, email and ftp after you reach your international cap. You will be able to browse whilst still in your local cap, which is 30Gig, minus your international cap.

IS ADSL Accounts with OpenBROWSE 128k
2GB including 30GB Local Cap: N/A
3GB including 30GB Local Cap: R249 per month
5GB including 30GB Local Cap: R379 per month
7GB including 30GB Local Cap: R488 per month
10GB including 30GB Local Cap: R637 per month

IS ADSL Accounts with OpenBROWSE 192k
2GB including 30GB Local Cap: N/A
3GB including 30GB Local Cap: R262 per month
5GB including 30GB Local Cap: R389 per month
7GB including 30GB Local Cap: R498 per month
10GB including 30GB Local Cap: R648 per month

MrBEEP can open proxy be used in conjunction with these for international p2p once 3g has been used?

I would like to be wrong, but I think that's a bit of wishful thinking:)
 
Unfortunately not. OpenWeb's International Unshaping Proxies can only work whilst still inside your cap. :(
 
MrBeep, I certainly would like to get one of your packages....BUT....

Can't you please partition 3GB intl and 27GB local. [i.e local bandwidth counts NOT towards intl. cap]?

EDIT: Or is that what Open Browse is?

Your packages' prices looks very good.

1. What does "with 56k shared International browsing after cap" mean? Is this the same as the 64K and 16K throttling that Telkom is giving as an option to ISPs or is this something else?
2. Does the "56k shared International browsing after cap" include e-mail & ftp or is it just an HTTP proxy?

im signing up towards the end of the month, i have allready gave imaginet notice. Its a shame that telkom did this cause i really liked imaginet

What restriction will there be on the local connection after the cap is reached? Will it be shaped or shared with a pool of capped users. What will the connection be like? Will i be able to use my full line speed to access local content?

Yes, you will still be able to download torrents/p2p's etc whilst still INSIDE your cap. Unfortunately our OpenBROWSE product (that comes into play after you have been capped) does not allow for these protocols.

Okay, so I know the IS cost price right...so you're goging to make a few rand ...no more than R10 per month and provice 56k int after cap for that...
Sounds like thres something youre not telling us..either that or you plan on oushing these prices up...like next week. Please explain because there is enough deception in this market already....
 
What you see is what you get.

Prices will be increasing by about 10 to 15% on 31 December.

I'm not sure if you can remember that OpenWeb started off as a non-profit organization. Infact, it still is. OpenISP, is a commercial entity selling these accounts, but not commercial in the "Telkom" sense of the word....

So, we have always harvested a spirit of giving. Am I doing something wrong?
 
Ok, now tell me if my logic is a bit screwed here, but doesn't this mean that if you have a 192 ADSL line, that would effectivly mean that you could have an uncapped service for R262 a month?

Sure there is no playing online games and p2p, but if you have an easynews account...

Or am I loosing the plot a bit here?

Also does the OpenBROWSE service include pop3, smtp, and ftp traffic? Or is it only http?
 
I wouldn't quite call it an uncapped account.

Downloads are physically blocked by the server. We are currently working on Add-On packages though. These will allow you to download at certain times during the day etc.

Pop3 is Open.
Smtp is Open.
Http/Https is Open.
Limited FTP is open.

So it is truly for browsing really.
 
But downloads also run on port 80 right? How would you monitor that?

I'm not challenging you or anything, I'm just interested to know.
 
What are your contention ratios on the OpenBROWSE product?
 
We block file extensions. Thats the easiest way to do it. Unfortunately, at these prices, we cannot allow downloading. Thats why we have to create add-on packages for that.
