Got this in my mail this week. Thought I should share it ;)

To all our Resellers,

Thank you for allowing me some time to inform you of what we are trying to

do to stabilise our ADSL offering, as well as improve on the service we are

offering our customers.

We have experienced a number of outages recently, and I must apologise

profusely for this. We at IS have always prided ourselves on our service, or

our ability to rectify when we go wrong. Unfortunately in this instance it

is taking us a little longer than we had hoped for, but it in no means

reduces the importance, nor critical nature of what we are trying to do.

We have always fought Telkom (via Wholesale pricing), to reduce pricing, to

deliver cheaper and newer technologies , to continually deliver to the South

African market a service and solution that is of a world class nature and

affordable.

Unfortunately with the slow liberalisation and deregulation of our telecoms

market, no SNO up and running, we have had very little choice but to use

Telkom, and pay too much for these services. This has resulted in the costs

of telecommunication in South Africa to be overly inflated.

We were also prevented from rolling out our own ADSL offering for nearly 18

months; due to Telkom's solution scoping, as well as the pricing of the

local transit bandwidth. We did however finally take the plunge by bypassing

Telkom as much as we could, but are still at the mercy of them with regard

to the peering debate, costs of the IPC links (linking the IS network to the

Telkom ADSL network), the contention of the Telkom last mile (copper wire),

and the other network hardware they have provisioned.

As a result of now landing our own Satellite circuits, we have been able to

roll out our own ADSL offering, and come up with some innovative solutions

such as no fixed caps, 512kb and 1 Meg Business DSL. We have had to

provision our own bandwidth so as to try and provide a price competitive

solution. In doing this, we have learnt a lot, and realised we need to

invest more in our networks to provide the right amount of stability and

redundancy. It is this drive of ours to become a Next Generation Telco,

procuring and landing our own bandwidth wherever possible, instead of being

at the mercy of Telkom, which is causing significant growing and learning

pains. I have all the confidence that we will get through this tough period,

we have always in the past, and there is no reason why we shouldn't right

now and into the future.

As a result, Internet Solutions will be investing in two more Satellite hubs

(at the cost of R8 million rand each). Unfortunately, an investment of this

nature takes time, and we will only have these additional links up in late

February 2006. This will take our total international bandwidth to 1 GIG.

In the interim, we are going to upgrade other links, and source connectivity

on a temporary basis. We will also be investing a further R100 million of

capital expenditure in our networks over the next 12 months.

So I would like to apologise for the poor service we have been providing

lately, but I would like to stress that we are doing a lot to rectify the

situation. We have been caught off guard by the amount of growth we have

seen over the last 12 months (our networks have tripled in capacity over

this period), so we are reviewing all of our networks in terms of stability,

capacity and redundancy.

I would like to thank you for your support so far, and hope we can prove to

you that we are a decent service provider.

We may however still go through a little more pain, but we ask you to stick

with us over this period. It is imperative that we continue to receive the

feedback, so that we can improve the solution, and improve on the service

delivery. If we all give up and give in to Telkom, we will end up with no

true competitor to Telkom, and the innovative solutions and drive to reduce

costs to the end user will dry up. This will not be in the best interests of

the telecommunications landscape in South Africa.

Thank you all for your understanding and commitment to IS.

Kind regards

Angus MacRobert

CEO, Internet Solutions

Yup and I agree with everything Angus cover here, we need to support the opposing Solution ie. Internet solutions atm.. Personally, SAIX had their chance and they failed us all.

Telkom take note!!!
At least IS admit their faults and try to do something about them. They are not glossing them over with pretty advertising brochures and BS.

*cough* talking about backing up the opposing solution, how many of u have cell c contracts...

Cancelled my SAIX accounts and moving over to IS next month.

I also have a cell c contact and no complaints this far.

Maybe if all of us cancel our SAIX contracts and move over to IS more ISP's will be forced to take action against Telkom.

Yeah, also cancelled my SAIX account and moving over to IS, there is a big BUT however: want to run it for a while to see if it is generally ok for my needs ...

The reality is that if it isn't up to standard then despite all my feeling to Telkom I will have to move back ...

Anyway, lets be optimistic :)

What I'm saying is that service comes first and if there are problems with IS, they won't manage to pull users from SAIX...

I will consider an IS account if they can beat Telkom on price.

My total cost has to stay the same (R477 + R250) or be reduced.

Obviously, IS is currently in no position to compete on costs - they are already running beyond capacity.

It would seem that South Africa have only one ISP that shows true innovation and entrepreneurship. IS now have their own international bandwidth that has nothing to do with Telkom and with thus we can only hope that it gets better. Telkom finally have some real competition in the broadband arena. Let's just hope IS can compete with Telkom eventhough Telkom is the big bully on the playground and the playing field is not near being level.

If the government had some common sense they would give IS incentives to get the playing field level and any other ISP that has the will and means to make real broadband in South Africa a reality.

If IS can get it right, I'm behind them 110% (already signed up for their service) - Telkom may be the big bully at the moment, but the bigger they are, the harder they fall! ...and I hope they fall from their holier-than-thou-ivory-tower in a BIG way... :D

At the end of the day, Sauron did die and the EYE was destroyed!!

Onwards hobbits, to the Great Wall!!

It's amazing the extent of unhappiness and expense Telkom is costing this country and its businesses. If there were a button to press to end the bastards who are making it difficult I would throw my weight against it, all 100 kilos of it.

It's only a matter of time before things start getting out of hand between Telkom and the public. And yes by out of hand I do mean things that will harm them. The **** they've put us through? They're not going to get off that easy.

MaD for president!

I totally agree with most people on this thread.

Let the *****rs die!!!

Totally agree, for the life of me I can't understand why not all people see what is happening here. It's pretty simple, it's a crime. I for one am also sick and tired of bending over for Telkom. They have ridden the wave long enough, it will come to an end.

As a company we have moved to IS Business ADSL 512k and dropped ADSL SAIX and in the process of downgrading our 256k SAIX Gold (R24k/month -2003), 256k SAIX Silver (R12k/month-2004) to 64k SAIX (R2.7k/month-2005) and eventually turn that off totally
So lets support IS, seeing that their growth has tripled, hopefully they can handle the growth as more users switch to IS.
Took 10 days from placing order with Imaginet www.imaginet.co.za to receiving the Cisco 837 ADSL Router giving u Uncapped, unshapped ADSL with 5 static IP

Web based Traceroute utility to our IS 512k ADSL account

Thats right kilos, plus Ive noticed over the last week absolutely no IS with SAIX peering issues during business hours (did IS end up paying for SAIX upgrades or did SAIX end up paying for their upgrades?)

I think there is great things to come with IS, this is only the beginning.
