A 4.1 GHz Dual Core at $130 - Can it be True?

excuse if im being stupid

i see in that pick
pentium 2.66 ghz
pentium 2.66ghz

does that mean if i run bf 2, that only 1 2.66ghz will come into action
thus i will be using 2.66ghz cpu to play bf2? or am i being stupid

so baically for games i will have 2.66 ghz cpu?

Conclusion: The 4.1 GHz Dual Core Delivers Peak Performance For Pocket Change

Those who first break this bit of news to their circles of friends can count on some surprised looks - in fact, they might even find their credibility getting questioned! But it is true: a cheap CPU that costs $130 outperforms the fastest processors from AMD (Athlon 64 FX-60) and Intel (Pentium Extreme Edition 965), each of which costs over $1,000.

Someone correct me if i am talking out my bunghole.

If BF2 is single threaded appy then only 1 Core handles it.
If BF2 is multi threaded then the load can be shed the across 2 Cores.

well as far as i know bf 2 is a single core game

or why would they ppl to disable one core to fix an amd dual core problem

thats what im thinking mccrack

imagine you and buy this cpu thinking youve hit the motherload only to be able to play bf 2 with a single thus slower than your current cpu

so plz can we get clarity here

it only works as if the game uses both cores correct?

how about applications like corel draw
would that also run at 2.66ghz which is way slower than my 3200+

The CPU starts as a 2.66 new.
But then they overclock the default 133FSB to 200 ,and the multiplier is set at 20 burnt on that.
So it's just a 2.66 dual core that they overclock to a 4.1 ,that runs very smoothly(for them).
So yeah ure BF2 would run on a single 4.1 Ghz overclocked core.

and as some said it runs smooth for them

im sure you need a top of line motherboard

so cheap cpu expensive other stuff :)

Exactly, you have to have a top of the range motherboard and water cooling to handle it.

I don't believe watercooling is necessary, but it does look like it consumes Gigawatts of power

it says in that review that to get it to run comfortably at top overclock they needed to switch from the Zalman cpu cooler to a water cooling system. using the zalman at top fsb overclock produced too much heat for an air system to dissipate

all of that aside, i am VERY impressed! now, just get it right to make it so that you DONT need to overclock the bastid, then everybody will buy this, even killadoob will buy it, since DAMN, you cannot deny the performance on those benches! wow

yes if it came stock i would buy it no doubt

but another thing is not all m/b's overclock well
these guys have access to everything

i dont have tons of cash to try and figure out how to o/c to 4.1ghz :)
