I am on 512 business ADSL SAIX and the latency is extreeemely high. Some days the net is fast, other days it's slow. HTTP downloads average 51 kb/s and ftp is unusable (which has been my case with SAIX forever) Browsing sucks, even a local site like sybaritic or myadsl is crap slow.

I've tried configuring MTU settings and all that jazz, but nothing helps. The explanation the telkom techies give me is that our "card" at the exchange freezes and then they need to reset it. Which leaves us with no internet access for a few days. This happens when I log a fault on the adsl helpline number and these guys keep saying it's my pc.

I'm pretty sure it's not the router and I've got 2 pc's connected on it, both with the same issue. I've formatted, configured 'till I'm blue in the face and nothing works. I was previously on 384 home DSL also SAIX for about 4 months and the speed was nothing except awesome. So what can be done, what can I do as a telkom customer to sort out the problem, and what can I do as a user to fix the problem myself?

Just to give you an example, it takes me 15 seconds after posting a thread for it to load, using opera.

Any help or idea's would be greatly appreciated.:p

If ur running linux, do an MTR to telkoms website and watch the statistics, if it is a router between you and them, then its telkoms baby. If ur running windows, use something like http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/WinMTR/winmtr.html WinMTR or visualroute.

The problem could also be heavy port shaping on telkoms side.

Also check ur adsl filters & cables, make sure they arent too long/damaged.
If the problem is their side at their DSLAM, maybe ask them to connect you to a different multiplexer.

take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DSLAM to get a better idea of what goes on their side.

As far as MTU is concerned 1500 is the standard for ADSL lines, setting it lower might help if the quality of your line is bad, it might be worth checking the stats on ur ADSL router, line attenuation, noise... it should tell u the details.

Typical telkom, doesn't grasp the concept the client says, read the post again and answer accordingly.

hey im trying to help here.
and if it is a problem at his exchange? that is what the tec told you isnt it?

Gangstarr works for Telkom, He should be able to take a look at that side of things.
With the MTR results:

196.25.211.40 is the Ip addy of telkomsa's website.

there is a 0% loss which is good... and an average response time of 82ms which is acceptable.

This leaves the possibility that its intermittant, or else its port shaping,:(

Whatever dude, I haven't got energy for telkom today, you're not trying to help, your trying to improve customer relations with the public by posting on an anti-telkom forum, get a real job!

Tera >> im sure gangstarr gets enough flackk, it isnt his fault that telkom management are complete losers, besides he is tryin to help.

Then he shouldn't p!ss me off by asking questions that has nothing to do with the problem? Give me the ref number? C'mon, did I say I logged a fault?

BTW, I'm not in Gauteng, which could of made it easier, if I can't get a solution on this thread to fix the problem myself, so be it. That means telkom will be losing a customer in a couple of months time.

lol
ye its my fault for trying to help.
i mean I can ask for your ADSL line number but that would be really dumb.
oh well. it seems I cant check your line. Imagine my disappointment

I hope your connection never works. Man what is wrong with you. Get your head checked.

Screw you jimbo :)

Edited for profanity, I shouldn't let telkom or an idiot agrivate me, people are different, who cares about my connection but me, who pays for it but me? So screw you!
