Letter to ITWeb today:
Hi there,
There has been a big fuss over Telkom dropping their costs this month. What most don't know is that if you are on the 384 kbps package, your upload speed has been HALVED. It was 256 kbps - the worldwide minimum standard, and is now 128 kbps. No mention was given to me by Telkom - nothing. I noticed terribly slow speeds, only to think it was due to the usual poor level of service I receive.
So I am paying less and not getting more. I'm paying less and getting less. I work in the internet field and am uploading to my server all of the time. 38 mb ZIP file today and 12-15k p/s upload is painful.
So now I might have to face the devil and give them more money, to upgrade to the 512 kbps account. Point is, you don't surf any faster, because there's no bandwidth allocation anyway. Reason I downgraded from 1024 kbps ages ago. So I only benefit on the upload. Not a lot of money, but the principles behind this - no mention to me the customer and just pulling the plug - totally and utterly disgusts me. And I hate giving Telkom my money. This really makes me ill.
Maybe a mention of this issue on your site. I see nothing mentioned at all and it does affect many without them even knowing. Telkom got good press for price cuts, lets bring on some poor press to counter it!
Regards,
Andrew Baddeley.
